Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 26, 2009 3:38 pm Hi there,
This is my first post here, so i am not too sure whether its the best place to put it, but after reading the forum for a while seems like the best spot. I have bought my first home, a fairly run down fibro shack , that has these unsightly joins in the internal walls in the living, dining and hall way. We are about to renovate but as most people in my situartion we dont have that much cashola to be ripping out walls.....(asbestos is a whole other issue) I have attached a photo... My question is how or what can i do with them interms of painting or decorating?? do i paint the strips and joins themselves the same colour as the skirting or to something a little more radical??? please help... you could paint it the same colour, but if your gona repaint it and do work on it anyway, i thought you could mayb try to take them off the wall then re-patch the joins flush, sand them and then paint over etc.... just and idea tho try see if it will work hope it helps Re: Joints in Walls...How to decorate 3Feb 26, 2009 7:21 pm Anita, the big question here is, how are you going to decorate this room furniture and look wise?
If you’re a country style of girl they could be used with a wallpaper frieze. If you are going to do the room in a modern look, they need to come off as Mr Smith said. They are cutting the walls in half, and even as they are now painted all the one colour, they are still cutting the walls in half. If you don’t want to go down the track of taking them off, then paint them out as they are now, all one colour. ideally i would really like to remove the wall strips, but i am usure of what cost or other implications would be because the walls contain asbestos....i am worried that such a job may need to be handled by a professional tradesman, thus probably pushing it above our budget... would it be a relatively simple job??? Attempting to decorate her first home Re: Joints in Walls...How to decorate 5Feb 26, 2009 8:26 pm well thats fair enough i hear ya about the tight budget lol your not alone...
but hey you never know till you try right? so mayb just try with a little bit trying to get under it/peel/scrape it off....and see how you go, youl need to patch and paint the wall anyway so not much you can lose.... what is the centre part made of? is it like just wood stuck on? Re: Joints in Walls...How to decorate 6Feb 26, 2009 8:31 pm Unless you are well aware of how to work with Asbestos, I would leave it alone!
Paint it….that’s your cheapest and safest option Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Joints in Walls...How to decorate 8Feb 26, 2009 8:38 pm Also, while you are aware of your walls being Asbestos, go buy yourself a packet of the little paper safety masks. You get about 5 in a packet and should cost you next to nothing.
