Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 26, 2009 10:26 am Hi,
I've been reading the forum for quite a while now and have seen very good advice and ideas that i have taken into account when thinking about building a home. Our colour selection has finally been booked for next week, so i've been seriously thinking about colour schemes for the house and i am kind of confused about some of the selections which is why i thought i would ask you for advice and opinions. I've always lived in a house with very light creamy walls, and floors with very neutral colour, but my husband and i do want a change and to add a bit more colour to the house. I want walls that have a slight more tan or light latte colour to go with dark brown furnture, greens etc creating a cozy look, but i want to make sure that it doesnt become too dark, making space look much smaller. Btw our floors are a beigy polished porcelain tile. Our builder uses haymes paint so we've been having a look at the following colours: walls: N23 Sand storm OR N24 China Doll OR O23 Mojave I really like the colour of the Sand storm but im worried that it will be too dark throughout the house. China Doll is ok, but im worried is too light, and mojave looks greenish in some angles. Please help, i dont know which one to go for. Feature walls: To give you more of an idea i intend to put the following colours as feature walls: Master bed + one wall of living area haymes N21 Harvest Time Another living area wall Dulux Capsicum Red Library - Dulux Dinasaur Ceiling and wood trims: Haymes W04 Pale Mushroom The other thing im still undecided about is the splashback colour. Since our floors are quite light i was thinking about darkish kitchen cupboards such as the loft oak on all bottom cupboards and top cupboards with something similar to the wall colour. The benchtop will be the silestone blanco city colour. Im considering using the same Capsicum Red feature wall in the splasback but im not sure if that will be too much. Any comments or ideas would be appreciated. Re: interior colour selection 2Feb 26, 2009 7:41 pm Abbey_aj, Sand Storm is very dark for a flow colour throughout the house.
It’s more a feature wall colour. China Doll is much better! I don’t have the Mojave. Love your feature wall colours….. Ceiling colour is good as well. I’d say go with the China Doll, it’s a lovely colour. Kitchen selections…well done, very nice! But most light colours can. The Berber Beige next to it was on the pink side.
