Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 08, 2009 9:01 pm Do you paint ceilings, archetraves and skirting boards white or quater strenth of the walls. Then what do you paint the doors the same colour as the walls or as the archtichave?
I have decided on laminex Moleskin for my kitchen cupboards with laminex Coco Nougat for the benchtop. It is a galley kitchen but the pantry is to the side with normal doors x 3 like the rest of the internal doors. What should I paint the doors moleskin the same as the kitchen but then will have to carry this through the rest of the house. Or do I do them quater or half strength then what about the walls do I do those full or half strengh? So confusing so many questions lol. We painted our ceilings white and kept the doors, architraves and skirtings the same colour as the walls (1/4 strength hog bristle throughout). It's a nice seamless look. My mum painted her woodwork lighter than her walls. Both options look good. It's entirely up to you. If you want the pantry door to be the same as the others then keep it consistent .. if you want to blend it into your kitchen then paint it the same colour as the laminex. I havnt picked anything yet. The plasterer has just started so I'd better pull my finger out I was thinking of white ceilings, but everyone says I should go quarter strength of what the doors are. What do you reckon ? do white ceilings look better, I honestly cant remember what I did in my last place! I am having wallaby for my kitchen bathroom ensuite and laundry cupboards. I was thinking of doing the same on the internal house doors and architrave and skirting then half strength on the wall. I have the sample pots but havnt got around to using them yet. Another thing that I like to know is because all these doors are going to be 2 pack gloss should I paint the doors arch and skirt in gloss or satin? I have also heard that dulux chalk or usa is a nice colour so may look at these too. But thinkng if I go with wallaby but just play around with the strength then even if the colour looks different at least the tones will be the same. Will look for you tomorrow! Sorry! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: what do you paint what ?????????? 10Feb 20, 2009 4:29 am Here we go……
Ceilings – ceiling flat (Although in my next house, I’m doing semi gloss! But that’s me) Walls – semi gloss/satin …I like the slight sheen, as it helps to bounce light. Skirts, arcks, doors and window trims – full gloss…..if you can, enamel. Ceilings are best in a very light colour, white preferably, unless the wall colour is as I said, very light. If you are doing a trim colour through out your house…..(a second colour on the timber work), then keep it all the same. Doors, skits, arks & windows frames. Paint your pantry doors the same as what you paint the other doors in the house, as these doors, even though they are a part of your kitchen, will still look like all your internal doors, so they need to match. Chalk is popular……paint up your colours on a board, and post them if you are uncertain. The half strength wallaby is lovely so this is what I'm putting on the walls. Its a bit like chalk but not as pink more a bone colour. Going to see what three quarter and full strength looks like now for all the doors and trims. Will go gloss on these areas. Decided on white ceiling I think as all the fittings on there are white. The alternative is to go with the quarter strength wallaby. I will post some photos later on my building post, showing the paint colours and tiles benchtop and cupboard colours all together. Thanks for the help Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7165 Thank you. That is really helpful.
