Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 06, 2009 2:42 am Hi guys
Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but it is kind of an "aesthetics" query - so I hope I can get some thoughts! We have been finalising our selections for our kitchen/bathroom joinery etc and are going to be using Caesarstone in the kitchen as well as bathrooms. Originally we'd planned to go with "Ice Cap" in the kitchen, which will be along with stainless steel and wenge...and were going to select something different for the bathrooms (which will also have wenge cabinetry)...but the joiner we are most likely going with strongly suggested that we should keep the same selection for both the kitchen and bathrooms... Along with keeping things 'consistent' he thought it would be more cost effective, i.e. wouldn't be wasting material where there might otherwise be too much.. Anyway, just wondering if others have gone with the same benchtop colour selections in the kitchen and bathrooms - or if it might seem a bit weird to have the same looking surface in both...if that makes sense?? I'd appreciate any thoughts and opinions!! Thanks! Re: Same benchtop colour for kitchen & bathroom?? 2Jan 06, 2009 11:03 am No we didn't do the same.
Mind you, we didn't do C/S either so cost of wastage wasn't such a big deal. I think that unless you can see the benchtops at the same time, which I think would be unlikely, then haveing exactly the same colour isn't important from an asthetics point of view. Re: Same benchtop colour for kitchen & bathroom?? 3Jan 06, 2009 11:11 am We are having the same stone in the kitchen and laundry (Osprey), but having Raven in the bathroom and Nova Aurora in the ensuite.
They are grey/white tones so all match the floortile. I considered orientation as well. Our kitchen is central in the house so I picked Osprey cos it's light, and the ensuite faces north so the light wioll pick up the silver sparkles in the Nova Aurora. The bathroom is very large so it can handle the dark Raven. Ours are all different, but match the overall colour scheme of the house (black, charcoal, grey, white, silver). Osprey ceaserstone in the kitchen and a browny laminex colour in the bathrooms. I also don't think they need to be exactly the same, as long as there is a consistent flow throughout the house. Re: Same benchtop colour for kitchen & bathroom?? 5Jan 06, 2009 11:36 am Hi Braveheart
Is is totally up to you However what we did to keep consistency throughout the house was to use the same feature cabinets throughout...American Walnut. This was used in the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms. I wanted something different for the tops but still kept the same colours/material eg White granite for the kitchen and carrara marble for the bathrooms. I think as long as all the rooms have one common element, then I think you will achieve the look you are after. If you can save a lot of money go the same.
It is usually cheaper to go all the same. To go a different color you will be using more sheets of stone hence the price can increase a fair bit. . Re: Same benchtop colour for kitchen & bathroom?? 7Jan 06, 2009 2:15 pm I agree, it's something only you can decide!
I went for consistancy, and have the same tiles, laminex cupboards (although the same colour but 2 pac in the kitchen), same Caesarstone benchtops throughout the kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and powder. The only difference is the benchtop in the laundry, which is a very similar laminex diamondgloss to the caesarstone. I lived in our old house for 12 years with a mish-mash of colours and surfaces, and I was looking forward to some consistancy. It's all very neutral, and will change colours with accessories/towels etc. Good luck! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! As long as your home FLOWS, it really comes back to what you like and want to do. Good luck, have fun, that’s what its all about. Kept the same tiles and cupboards in the wet areas throughout.
I don't think it matters much - entirely up to you. Re: Same benchtop colour for kitchen & bathroom?? 10Jan 06, 2009 8:44 pm Thanks for all the responses!!
I guess we were just a little worried as we had always intended to have different selections in the kitchen/bathroom/ensuite...but after speaking to some joiners, they all seemed to recommend keeping them the same! But, I think we'll go with what we originally intended and just pick what we like!! The cabinetry will at least be consistent...besides which, I don't play on having people walking through our ensuite on a regular basis!! Thanks again for the replies!
