Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 03, 2009 7:26 pm Hi
I am so glad I have found this web site, so many useful things on here. I hope someone out there can help. We are currently renovating a house - my husband is a tradie, so it is getting done really slowly Anyway I have got stuck on a colour scheme for the open plan area of our house which consists of the Kitchen, Dining and Living Areas. Although they are open plan I would like to give each area it's own feel through colour, but trying to find colours that work well together is proving really hard. The kitchen is all but finished and I am trying to find a suitable colour for the walls. See following photos The kitchen colours are: Beech Polytec Doors, Black Granite Counter Top and Light Blue/grey glass splashback. I don't want white or magnolia, as this is what the house has been for the last 5 years!! The lounge area I would like to feel warm and inviting, we have a suede sofa, the dining area leads out on to the back veranda and outdoor entertaining area and we will have large bi-fold doors, so would like to blend in with outside which is hardwood and sandstone (or will be). All the doors, windows, skirting etc is oak and will be left a natural colour. I love red as an accent colour, also purple and rich browns, but I don't want the house looking too dark, as sadly it doesn't get alot of light in. Probably alot to ask, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be greatful, as my brain is fried. Re: Open Plan Colours Kitchen, Dining, Living 2Jan 04, 2009 4:18 pm Hi Jo, I just deleted the second post that was in the forum, hope you don’t mine.
I’ve been to a 50th birthday party last night and have only had 2 hours sleep So being brain dead at the moment, I’m not going to answer any hardish questions till tomorrow night. Now, any chance you can take a photo of the other rooms as well? It’s pretty hard to pick a colour for you knowing what the rooms look like. Also your kitchen is very neutral, which means most any colour will go with it. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Open Plan Colours Kitchen, Dining, Living 7Jan 05, 2009 8:30 pm I would but the dining area looks like a building site (you can't actually see that it is a dining area and the living area is currently being added on. They are blank canvases so to speak. We will have white catherdral ceilings in kitchen and dining areas (they are currently a yucky brown thanks to previous owners). The layout is an "L"shape - well almost a triangle and we have the main front door cutting across the corner with the dining area and entrance in the corner and the kitchen and living are on either end. The floors will be tiled in a neutral light sandstone colour. We are getting to the stage where I have to decide colours and I am really struggling. I would love to do the living area in a burnt orange and brown maybe with a hint of red, but not sure how it would go with blues in the kitchen and then what to do in the dining area. Would love to maybe have a linking colour running throughout maybe as an accent, but not sure how that would work. Head spinning....... "Just remember we brought it because it had potential ......" Email consults the forum I’m getting brain dead! I’ll have a look tomorrow now when I can get the head back together. Sorry! So I’m going to just give you suggestions on colours. If that doesn’t work and you are still in a panic over your colours I suggest you call in a colour consultant. It will take her an hour to do, and money well spent if you are getting frazzled by your colour selections. These colours need to complement each other as well. So possibly a brown and burnt orange walls, with the hint of red in accessories. This is just what I needed. Love the colours. I think I had just been at it too long (oh that sounded rude ), that it was all starting to blur. Needed some clarity and to step back - really difficult sometimes when your house is a building site. Thank you so much.
Love the Dulux Piccaninny, can't wait to use it (maybe I could persuade hubby we need a new sofa - as I think this would be a lovely colour for a this) and the orange would make a great accent colour, I have seem some beautiful cushions in a similar colour. Better get some sample pots in - this is the fun part. Thank you again - you have breathed new excitement into this project for me. Will post some photos when it is done. Piccaninny is a lovely colour I agree. Re: Open Plan Colours Kitchen, Dining, Living 12Jan 06, 2009 6:11 pm Glad you like them Jo, I was a bit pleased with them myself!
I think they all go really well together. Good luck and have fun, and yes I know what its like wearing yourself out over selections.
