Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 29, 2008 3:34 pm Hi Michelle,
I am all new to this paint bizzo and wanted to get some advice from you. I have been reading some of your forums about a few colours I have chosen and after reading I am super confused about what to do. My partner and I have just purchased a house and have been in here for 3 weeks now. The internal house pain is a lemon colour with a dirty white ceiling. My initial thoughts were to go with Dulux paint "linseed" which is way to dark, so thought about making that a feature wall. I like the "beige royal' colours so we got a sample pot of the full strength and put it on a board and moved it around a few rooms and feel that it will be too dark. I work for an interior design firm and they suggested to use Whiper white for the ceiling, archs, doors etc. I also did a board in the WW and put it up against the ceiling and feel as if its not far off what is already there - which I feel is dirty and not clean. So my questions and confusion are... 1. Should I get a different strength of Whisper White to try on the ceiling - I did not know you could until I read some of your comments to other people. 2. I went to the paint shop yesterday and picked up sample pots of "white on white" and "lexicon 1/4 strength" to view on the ceiling, arch's doors, etc. Should I be using the same colour on the ceiling as doors, arch and windows?? Or should I just use a ceiling white on its own and then a specifice colour on the trimings (this appears to have been done in the house already and looks crappy). After reading about those two colours on your forum I am a little confused about which one may be better with the beige royal. 3. I now wanted to get your thoughts on the beige royal colour. My other and I were thinking about half strength with the possibility of a full strength feature wall or a feature wall of Linseed?? 4. I also like white duck and wouldnt mind painting a room with that colour. As you can see I am a little confused about getting straight ceiling paint or choosing a colour and then which colour do I use if I am planning on painting the house beige royal - half strength or quarter?? Any help and assistance would be greatly appreaciated. thanks Michelle, Cheers, Natalie Re: Confused about Paint 2Dec 29, 2008 4:36 pm Do I know you Nat?
Maybe not. Long post, you might have to give me some time for this one. Just a question and purely for my own curiosity, if you work for a design company, what do you do there? I would soak as much info out of them as possible if I were you……. I work in the finance area of the company - unfortunately not ID. They gave me a bunch of ideas already and I dont really want to use up all my good will at the office on my first house. Now that I have all those ideads, I am rather confused about the painting colours... Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nat Re: Confused about Paint 4Dec 30, 2008 1:10 pm Coming Nat….been out most of the morning.

Hang in there with me for a while. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Confused about Paint 6Dec 30, 2008 4:47 pm Linseed is too dark for the internals of a house, your right there. Beige Royal is good. Q) Should I get a different strength of Whisper White to try on the ceiling - I did not know you could until I read some of your comments to other people. A)No…..I think you should do a pure white ceiling. No tints no shades. 2. I went to the paint shop yesterday and picked up sample pots of "white on white" and "lexicon 1/4 strength" to view on the ceiling, arch's doors, etc. Should I be using the same colour on the ceiling as doors, arch and windows?? After reading about those two colours on your forum I am a little confused about which one may be better with the beige royal. A)Again I would do a pure white for all the trim work, Beige Royal is a nice colour, pure white will ascent very nicely! Q) I now wanted to get your thoughts on the beige royal colour. My other and I were thinking about half strength with the possibility of a full strength feature wall or a feature wall of Linseed?? A)This does depend on how much natural light you have coming into the house. I quite like it full strength, but I don’t have to live with it. Possibly ½ only, any lower than that and it will wash out to nothing on the walls. Q) I also like white duck and wouldn’t mind painting a room with that colour. A)I have found white duck has a green tint to it, but again a nice colour. Also complement this colour with pure white! Have I forgotten anything? What I need to say here is, not everyone can have the same selections in their homes, some like one colour through out, some don’t. I have one colour throughout, but my walls are very light. Whisper White is too yellow to go with the colours you have said, that’s why I have suggested pure white, it will bounce light around the room for you. We do …do things a tad bit differently to designers, and that’s NO offence to designers, they are worth their weight in gold! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Confused about Paint 8Dec 30, 2008 5:17 pm Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your post...I just got back from Bunnings and got another sample pot of beige royal 1/2. Ive got a board on the wall with 1/2 strength Beige Royal - which looks great and the other parts, white on white and lexicon 1/4 strength. I ruled out the white on white as its a bite bluey on the wall and think we will go for the lexicon 1/4 for all ceilings and trimmings. Is pure white the same as 'vivid white'?? The lady at the shop said the lexicon will take the starkness out of the vivid white which is the colour they use in ceiling white. I will go out and get a pot of the pure white tomorrow for comparison. Also, just on something a bit different, I was reading your thread about making your own bedhead with wallpaper. Did you get this completed and do you have any pics to show? How did you do it? I have been reading some DIY bedheads and there is quite a few different ways - do you use cushioning? Thanks, Nat Re: Confused about Paint 9Dec 30, 2008 5:32 pm Nat, very good on the ½ Beige Royal.
My bed head, no I didn’t do it. I’m moving now, so who knows what I will come up with wherever I end up next! Its easy, the wallpaper one…… you just need to measure where you want it to go, and how far up the wall you want the paper to be, and put it on. It’s a neat look, better still it can be removed and replaced whenever you tired of the paper. The padded one, that’s a bit different, I went to Bunning’s also, and found a large piece of timber that would suit as the timber frame for the bed head. This would need to be padded, then upholstered in what fabric you like, a staple gun will attach it for you on the back. The padding you should be able to get from any craft store, glue it on. Just a test to keep us on out toes! This one was ok, just can’t figure out how it got there twice. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 6282 Go to an actual paint store, not bunnings. Dulux even have trade centers. Don't have to be a trade to but their paint. 1 14052 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 3618 |
