I am sure this is a very dumb question but .... if our ceilings and skirtings are going to be white, and our interior doors are going to be white, then they should all be the same white - right? We have been able to make the various selections we have travelled along the building path and I am in the process of sending through colours for the ceilings, doors etc. We have taken the wall painting out of the contract and will have that done after handover but I need to give them some of the other interior paint colours. Also - the white that has been recommended to me as what "most" people use in Solver (which is what our builder uses) is "Designer White". Would this white match a warm neutral on the walls? Or does it not matter so much? Re: Dumb question - skirting, interior doors, ceiling colours .. 2Dec 10, 2008 9:48 pm hi becster,
Sorry I am not Michelle, but just thought I would advise that what I would have done (if I was not having white everywhere), would be to make the cornices the same colour as the ceiling (say ceiling white), then the skirts and architraves and doors, either another white that goes with your main wall colour, or a half/quarter strength of the main wall colour. But yes, I would make doors the same colour as the skirts and archs, to make a long story short And I think doors and skirts look great in full gloss Re: Dumb question - skirting, interior doors, ceiling colours .. 3Dec 11, 2008 7:02 am Hi Bec,
Can I ask question just to clarify things? You are having your ceiling, archs, skirtings and doors painted before handover...but not the walls? The 'usual' way of painting a room is the ceiling and cornices, followed by the walls, then finish off with all the woodwork (archs, skirts and doors). Painting the walls is very messy business, and you will probably end up with paint splatters or over spray ( depending on which method) all over your freshly painted skirts and archs. Just make sure the painters (or yourself if you are doing the walls) covers up all the woodwork with plastic to protect them! As for colour, it's all a personal choice! I have a warm neutral on my walls (well, I WILL!), and all of my woodwork is gloss bright white...not a hint of any colour. But I LOVE that fresh look! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I should have also mentioned that we have taken the skirtings out of the contract and will also do these post-handover ($3600 for skirtings seemed kind of over the top ). So, the painters will do the ceilings and cornices, architraves and doors before handover and then we will do the walls, and sometime later down the track - once floors are all done, we will do the skirtings. Re: Dumb question - skirting, interior doors, ceiling colours .. 5Dec 11, 2008 9:12 am Hi Becster, we have the info for a good skirting supplier if you need just Pm me if you need the details.....and they deliver.....you do have to sand and paint yourself unless you are paying a handyman............We had the same issue with skirtings they charge a fortune......and I'm with Donuts on the colours.
Stormy....I am not Bec but to answer your question, because our walls are brick and plaster its recommended for your walls to be painted last as it gives them time to dry properly as painting to quickly can cause bubbling and alot of brick homes show hairline cracks due to weather within 6 months(although most of us don't wait that long) Its easier to patch these up if you haven't painted........Most of our architraves are metal and the building companies charge a squillion dollars to paint your walls but all the other bits are included.......I hope that makes sense.... Re: Dumb question - skirting, interior doors, ceiling colours .. 6Dec 11, 2008 9:26 am Thanks Gweluphome - will get in touch re skirtings...
My impression is that the doors are painted off site by the supplier and installed by the carpenter - but I'm not sure why I think that ... In other news - our colorbond is on and the render should be starting today, weather being beautiful and all ....
