You will need to find out if it is aniline or pigmented. Being ceam it is most likely pigmented which means it needs recoating to change the colour.
Leather after it is tanned is usually a sickly grey colour which is not very attractive, so they have to colour it. They will sometimes dye the leather and then coat it with a layer of pigment to give the final colout to the use surface. So a pigmented leather is first tanned to keep the bacteria form eating it and then painted with a layer they like to call "pigment", but it's basically a very flexible paint. It is then usually then coated over the top in a fine layer of polyurethane to protect the pigment form the sweats and oils from your skin. to recolour it means basically you have to sand off the pigment and then recoat it with a new coloured pigment and then apply some more urethane. You will normally loose a bit of the grain as the paint fills up the smaller valleys in the grain. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au |
