And my internals took a bit of work simply because they are charcoals and greys and it's difiicult to match those correctly. But what will be the hardest.... and I'm not even going to think about til after I move in... will be window coverings.... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: In your decorating stages…… 3Nov 28, 2008 6:04 pm The biggest challenge for me was designing my own kitchen to obtain a particular look. Very difficult without a kitchen designer to help you. Also, the kitchen colours.
2nd and still is...locating designer wallpaper. You need a 'special interior designer badge' to even be allowed go into a shop let alone look at the books and actually order But, I am a woman on a mission to have 2 of my walls with wallpaper...they might try and win the battle, but I will win the war. please ignore my senseless ramblings, I am not going to be in for christmas Mrs B Re: In your decorating stages…… 4Nov 28, 2008 6:07 pm Window dressing is the one thing I hate in my work.
What I think will look best is not always what the client likes. So I find it a real personal thing, like artwork. I like to change them around; I’m in the mood for change. Big time! Thought I might grow the hairs on my legs as well…………………….. I am also not looking forward to window dressings Re: In your decorating stages…… 9Nov 28, 2008 7:08 pm Yes window dressing need to tick a lot of boxes.
Keep the heat out, keep the warmth in, privacy, and on it goes. I think that’s why it’s so hard. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: In your decorating stages…… 10Nov 28, 2008 7:16 pm Definitely, definitely, definitely the kitchen for me. I had a picture in my mind, I would decide on colours/finishes, and then I would see something new in a magazine I liked and change it. How many times I did that....I can't remember If kitchen man said ...this way....I would say NO....that way. If he said ....I can't do that....I would say...oh yes you can always smiling I just bought the latest "bible" on kitchens and I can truly say I haven't seen anything in it I like better, EXCEPT I could probably have utilised the space better, had more storage, except I wouldn't have the look I was after. So, instead of having more storage I will chuck stuff out Re: In your decorating stages…… 11Nov 28, 2008 7:22 pm Ahhh, it’s all about the look!
Tip….no one will ever get it perfect, there will always be things you wished you didn’t do or did do. That’s just how it goes. The best thing is, you did it, and that alone should make you feel good, no matter what you wished you’d done or not. Until now I haven't finalised my decision on which one to use. Facade was the easiest for me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: In your decorating stages…… 13Nov 28, 2008 7:33 pm So window dressing seems to be the big problem.
I’ll look into that. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: In your decorating stages…… 14Nov 28, 2008 7:34 pm Is this because people are using odd shaped windows?
Or is it a look that you are all concerned about? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: In your decorating stages…… 15Nov 28, 2008 7:55 pm I know with window furnishings on the front bedrooms (east facing) they had to have good sunblock and look good from the street...again the look...but they needed to allow good ventiliation, I like a breeze on my face, but had to have privacy (busy road at times). So I needed a bit of everything = shutters. The rest I went with the roller blinds, low maintenance (cause I will be spending all my time cleaning the shutters). Re: In your decorating stages…… 16Nov 28, 2008 8:19 pm Michelle Is this because people are using odd shaped windows? Or is it a look that you are all concerned about? I know exactly what I want. The problem with window furnishings for me is the cost. When you get a quote for 30k for the perfect curtains you begin to look at alternatives and start compromising ...for me that is when the problems begin. Mrs B Re: In your decorating stages…… 17Nov 28, 2008 8:25 pm Part of my problem is an odd shaped window (my bay window). The other problem is getting ones that will look good from the inside and the outside, and getting ones that look good and block out light.
For example, I love some blinds you put up a while ago (I think they are luminette?), but they don't block out light very well, which means I would have to get another window dressing for the light factor - and it gets expen$ive! Mrs B - did your quote come back? Re: In your decorating stages…… 18Nov 28, 2008 8:40 pm Quote: The other problem is getting ones that will look good from the inside and the outside, and getting ones that look good and block out light. Yes, that's exactly our problem. And Mrs B is spot on... the cost is one of the problems... If I have the money for nice window coverings, then there won't be much problem ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: In your decorating stages…… 19Nov 28, 2008 8:41 pm donuts Mrs B - did your quote come back? Yes I am putting plan B into action. White or chrome downlights.... believe it or not I found all the smaller decisions the hardest to make!! Now that we are in I'm finding the decorating extremely hard ...the lack of funds might have something to do with that Window furnishings for me wasn't too bad just had to decide between Roman Blinds or roller blinds & privacy isn't an issue.
