Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 13, 2008 11:56 am So I need to start thinking about my lounge room.
The plan is to have beech coloured flooring (floorboards), a feature wall in red, the couch is white leather, TV cabinet is a dark walnut brown and a coffee table in glass with probably a black shelf. The question is what colour rug do I put under the coffee table - black with white or red with white or something completely different altogether? I have yet to see a rug incorporating all 3 colours that I like. I can add scatter cushions to the couches and I will have vases with silver & brown twig things either side of the TV Trying to make it mine! Re: Rug colour advice 3Nov 13, 2008 2:41 pm Hi Sassy Bud, Here are a few examples of rugs that have colours that I think would suit your apartment. I like the first one because it gives you the option of not just red as a highlight colour but also blue aswell. I think the red on your wall will be so vibrant that I think you should keep red only as a highlight colour for the rest of the room and not another dominant feature.......if that all makes sense.
Are you going to have a coffee table or ottoman covering some of the rug? The coffee table will be partially on top of the rug Trying to make it mine! Take notice of the colours in the rug. And yes it’s a shag pile. All though there are a lot of rugs out there on the market, sometimes it’s better to look at carpet, and have that made into a rug. All though there are a lot of rugs out there on the market, sometimes it’s better to look at carpet, and have that made into a rug. Can you give me a rough idea on how much it is to do that? Re: Rug colour advice 11Nov 13, 2008 8:40 pm Depends on the size of the rug you want made.
When you look at carpet and the price in the shop, it’s a full price including laying and underlay. So you need to ask how much the carpet will be for supply only. It also depends on the carpet you choose and its price and grade. My carpet that I showed you was going to cost me close to $500 including the over locking, but the rug would have been 3x2 mts. The carpet was over $200 a mt. Go and have a look at some carpet stores see if you like any and ask do they do rugs. Some stores aren’t set up with an overlocker, so they don’t do it. In fact I used to push the sales; I saw it as a far wider variety if you don’t want a lot of pattern in your rug. Shags were popular in the 70s and 80s but then people realised what a nightmare they are to maintain. Vacuuming is very difficult and time consuming. Spot cleaning is also very dificult. Stuff will easily drop into and amoungst the pile and from there it is very difficult to remove. There is nothing worse than beautiful decor that looks grotty after a very short period of time. In the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry we see so many disasters where fabrics and carpets are chosen simply for their initial looks, without any thought given to how to care for them. Examples are; Fabrics that fade or actually change colour from body contact or spills or are simply not cleanable without texture or colour change. Carpets that fade quickly because dyes are unstable to atmospheric conditions or are simply not suitable for the likely soil conditons. Unprotected leathers in warmer climates. Then there are the disasters where people will let animals sleep (or worse)on the shag rugs and they are ruined within a short period of time because they are difficult to clean to that depth. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Did you know that you can get rugs made from carpet?
