Shags were popular in the 70s and 80s but then people realised what a nightmare they are to maintain. Vacuuming is very difficult and time consuming. Spot cleaning is also very dificult. Stuff will easily drop into and amoungst the pile and from there it is very difficult to remove. There is nothing worse than beautiful decor that looks grotty after a very short period of time. In the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry we see so many disasters where fabrics and carpets are chosen simply for their initial looks, without any thought given to how to care for them. Examples are; Fabrics that fade or actually change colour from body contact or spills or are simply not cleanable without texture or colour change. Carpets that fade quickly because dyes are unstable to atmospheric conditions or are simply not suitable for the likely soil conditons. Unprotected leathers in warmer climates. Then there are the disasters where people will let animals sleep (or worse)on the shag rugs and they are ruined within a short period of time because they are difficult to clean to that depth. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Did you know that you can get rugs made from carpet?
