Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 03, 2008 10:58 am Hi all,
We are new to this forum and need some help regarding paint colours My husband and I have decided to re-paint the entire house. Urrrg! Anyway we have been trying to decide upon a colour for approx 7mths, debating which tones and colours we feel suit our home. We've decided that neutral brown/earth tones would be the way to go. Currently the house is painted in a horrible pale yellow colour called (french vanilla ice-cream) sounds delicious but believe me its evil. We both hate the colour but when we built the house we thought that choosing the same paint colour as the display was the right way to go. Hmmm! So has anyone got any suggestions on earthy tones and colours that they have used? We do not want a paint that has any yellow, grey under or real pink undertones. As we have already tried Hog Bristle, Pale Parchment, Canvas Cloth, Grand Piano and Sandy Day - to name a few... We have heard that Self-Destruct might be the way to go without being overbearing...any help and suggestions would be most appreciated. Cheers, M & M Re: Paint Colour Drama's 2Nov 03, 2008 11:29 am here are a few from taubmans that are not yellow: sorry the scan did not turn out very good. What are your thoughts we regards to Self Destruct?
Regards, Melissa Re: Paint Colour Drama's 4Nov 03, 2008 11:48 am self destruct looks very warm and cosy, is it for the whole house?
will you go 1/2 or 1/4? or full strength? also scanned some other taubmans ones. (can only find my taubmans colour pallettes). Maleena Hardy Curiouser & Curiouser Vintage-Handmade-Interior & Colour Consultancy http://www.curiouserandcuriouser.com.au Re: Paint Colour Drama's 6Nov 03, 2008 12:09 pm Hi again Maleena,
This is the issue, we don't know if Self Destruct in 1/2 strength is too strong a colour for the whole house, but yes we're wanting to paint the entire house in it. We have attempted to try it in 1/4 strength but found it showed a very distinct pink tone which we would prefer to steer clear from. Our house has a lot of windows throughout and I guess this will tend to change the appearence of certain tones. Front lounge room has had a feature wall painted in Donkey and we love this colour. Furniture - in our front lounge we have a black lounge with raw iron & glass side fittings i.e. side buffet table & coffee tables/lamp table with dark wood tv cabinet. I am hoping to rid of all the raw iron furniture & replacing it with dark wood furnishings soon. The main meals/kitchen open plan entertainment area has beech coloured furniture throughout with a dark grey lounge. Our tiles are mainly an earthy beige/pink grey stone finish and our curtains do have a slight pink tone but we will be replacing them with wood venetians and our carpet is being replaced from a very neutral beige colour to a more warm tone in a chocolate brown type tone. Forgot to mention the kicthen has white cupboards and black bench tops with white tiles with grey/black trimming. Does this help? Re: Paint Colour Drama's 7Nov 03, 2008 12:22 pm Self destruct in 1/2 should be fine with all the light from the windows.
If you still feel that it has a pinkish colour to it, this could be from your curtains and tiles, you may need to go with a more grey/neutral like Athena from taubmans, this is very close to Self destruct. Does Self destruct look pinkish all the time or just at certain times of the day? Oh yeah, it would look fantastic with the dark timber furniture you are planning to buy. Sounds like you have alot of decisions to make while you are making over the house. I am in the same position at the moment, I have a wall in my bedroom that looks like the italian flag red white and green. trying to decide between the red and green,. red is winning at the moment, just have to get hubby to do it. we are using a colour called taubmans argos cream for themain walls through out the house it is an off white. This is where you should be looking…….the lightest in Dulux gradients related to Donkey. By the way it’s a nice colour. My husband has just called and says that he can see a green undertone in the paint??? Am starting to think he may be colourblind or are we both going mad??? We have tried various grey tones (i.e. Pebble Beige and Canvas Cloth, there was another but I cannot for the life of me recall the name, it was in line with Canvas Cloth - a shade darker) and most of these tones have looked blue in our house. I've asked him to send through some pictures but as yet have not received anything. I appreciate your help... Using Michelle's advice here are the dulux colours: they can all be made lighter. I have received these pictures of the front lounge. The second picture with Self Destruct against the Donkey as our feature wall.
Can you see any green tone in these pictures... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Paint Colour Drama's 12Nov 03, 2008 2:46 pm Hey Maleena….well done, but looks like they are too pink, bad move on my part there.
I really need to be in my office with my colour available. I’ll see how I go for time tonight. What abut Buff it, Light Rice or even Puddle or Snuggle Pie? I was going to suggest white duck but it has a greenish tinge to it also. Shetland lace is a bit pink. Have tried Buff It also and tends to look blue greyish and Light Rice appears pinkish in our home. It all seems like such a headache, I can't believe it is so difficult to decide upon a colour... Re: Paint Colour Drama's 16Nov 03, 2008 3:44 pm What colour is your carpet and flooring?
Sounds like there maybe some bouncing of colours going on. Hi Michelle, Our tiles are mainly beige/pink-grey stone finish and our curtains do have a slight pink tone but we will be replacing them with wood venetians and our carpet is being replaced from a very neutral beige colour to a more warm tone in a chocolate brown type tone. The plan was to have painted the house prior to replacing the carpets. Re: Paint Colour Drama's 19Nov 03, 2008 4:05 pm Judie What about Moon River by Bristol? If you search for posts by Phoenix, she used it in her house and it looks so good I'm going to use it too. Judie Thanks Judie will search now to see what I find, you dont happen to have a picture that you could attach for me? Cheers, Melissa Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 3618 Go to an actual paint store, not bunnings. Dulux even have trade centers. Don't have to be a trade to but their paint. 1 14043 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 3991 |
