Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 01, 2008 9:28 pm Hi all,
Underneath our eaves were supposed to be painted 1/4 strength Dulux Silkwort (full strength is the main colour of the gable - the light grey colour). However they look white as white can be to me. I asked Builder to check whether they painted it the right colour, I got a vague 'Yes it would have been because that is what was on the sheet we gave to the painters' What is the best way to check? As it is 1/4 strength I have no sample card leaflet thing. Should I get a sample pot made up, paint something, then stand on a ladder and hold it up against the eaves? Here are the all-important pics - they are in the shade so may not look as white though... I would get a sample pot anyway and do a little tester somewhere thats not noticeable. Either way its good to have a little touch up pot on hand.
Better to know now and get them to fix it up at their expense if it is wrong. Re: How do you tell if it's the right colour? 3Nov 01, 2008 9:41 pm You won't get a colour chip in that colour, so I suggest that you get a sample pot and do a 'brush out' on a piece of cardboard or MDF, or dob a bit of the paint on an inconspicuous area - this will be enough to tell you whether it correct or within a bull's roar... Correct….and don’t be surprised if it is white. White. Oh I see, sorry I thought you meant that the 1/4 strength Silkwort could be white. (As in, to my eyes.) I'm actually not too fussed about the colour, it looks ok, but it just isn't what I ordered, and I feel like I am 'settling' on a lot of things with this house, ie being very agreeable, and I think I just want the Builder to KNOW that. So that I have it up my sleeve in case I really want to stand my ground on something Re: How do you tell if it's the right colour? 9Nov 02, 2008 9:28 pm to_do_list This may sound completely stoopid if so, I'm use to it...check the paint tins...we are getting the house painted and the paint tins all have the computer printout with the color on it... ...at least you know that they listened whether you actually got the color...*shrugs* You mean the empty ones in the trash cage Mike? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: How do you tell if it's the right colour? 12Nov 09, 2008 9:41 pm Donuts, when DH painted our eaves in half strength classic cream it looked way too light, so we changed it to full strength.
It wouldn't suprise me if 1/4 srength of your paint colour looked white... Maybe if you just take a piece of white paper out there to hold up against it you will be able to see if it's white or not - then you don't have to worry about the sample pots.. Re: How do you tell if it's the right colour? 13Nov 10, 2008 7:31 am Yeah I might do that first Jo thanks but is not as conclusive as the sample pot test - if I really want to be anal and prove I'm right to Builder I'll probably still need the pot... Re: How do you tell if it's the right colour? 14Nov 12, 2008 7:46 pm Well I rang up the Paint shop to order a sample pot to pick up - the smallest 1/4 strength they can do is one litre - for $30.
