Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 20, 2008 5:39 pm It’s a known factor when you live in your own environment you tend to miss things…….yes, even us decorators miss things occasionally.
So here’s a question to all of you, and lets see how creative you can be. This is my dining room…..used to be the family room, until I switched rooms around. No matter what I do….within a tight budget at the moment, I cannot soften this room. The tiles on the floor have to stay!!! This room is off my BBQ area, and carpet is very impractical for this space. The furniture has to stay as well, its only 4 years old. Although my daughter would be very happy if I was to get rid of it…….but it isn’t going to happen. What do you think I can do to soften this room? I have tried quite a few things. Also, that red wall is very strong, so I was thinking that a fabric wall hanging thingo, like this:

Have you been to my place? Really, did you just photoshop that? Also…….its the dining room, I need to keep the dining table in there. Whoever's house it is, they must have good taste to use the same colour wall as you
Could you get rid of the little stone looking statue and vase? To open it up a little and have more "white space"? My eyes don't know where to look Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 7Oct 20, 2008 6:03 pm Why not paint the wall unit frame - white (leave baskets natural wood.
Maybe even the table top.... Add flowers (meant real flowers - white or pale colours with nice green leaves) Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 8Oct 20, 2008 6:06 pm Ok, I have moved the statue, its now over on the side wall against the whitish wall.
Good point there. The vase thing, which one? I know what you mean there is a lot going on in this room. I’m not really a fake flower person, but I have tried it. Hi Michelle, If I use this pic as my inspiration...............here is what I would do. Hang a thick sheer curtain on your burgandy wall floor to ceiling in a softer colour (I like the white) but you may have to paint the wall behind white. I would then put your rattan drawers against it with some flowers instead of all your hard ornaments. Also use clear glass for your vase. I have used this pic before. but something like this. Real flowers possibly. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Do you have a fabric armchair you could use in that room? If so you could put the single rattan stand and a armchair over on the wall with the grey plaque and put the mirror there. Basically if you pretend like your painted wall is a window and put a sheer across the whole lot, then strip the room of all its accessories and start again but be minimal I think it would feel softer and airier. Could work........... Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 11Oct 20, 2008 6:26 pm Love this look!!!!
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Very nice!!! Most of my house is Balinese; it’s a very small home, so I need to have a flow. But I will give this some thought, very good gweluphome. I think the curtain over the Murray Red wall will look good, it will soften the red, but still work with the flow of colours. Oh yes…… I like this!!! Now……how much do I pay you! YES….daughter will rub her hands together on that as well…..new rug for her. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 14Oct 20, 2008 7:16 pm Hi Michelle,
Have you tried the wooden wicker 6-draw unit to your feature wall?? I think the dark wood looks great on that feature wall, and the lighter colour piece would look great against your white wall... Also, have you seen these? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They are wood carving artwork... and I love them... and might look good on your feature wall. Also, what about some indoor plants - cheap and quick... Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 15Oct 20, 2008 7:20 pm Please please tell me where to find the dark wood carving. I've seen the white one lots but never the dark one and I want it Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 16Oct 20, 2008 7:37 pm Clarity……I have 5 indoor plants in this room.
The trouble with photos is you can never get the full room in. Everyone that comes here loves my home, but me….I’m forever trying to change things. I like the timber carvings! Very nice. If I move the sideboards around, I think the room will look out of balance. The one against the red wall is my partners; I don’t have anywhere else to put the thing. The colour was fine until we put the awning on the BBQ area, now it’s a very dark room. I agree with you, it’s the colour!!!! I have been looking for some soft greens, but can’t find any that make a statement and I like.
