Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 19, 2008 8:11 am Hi, I have only one room left to furnish , trouble is after getting the hall table so wrong, I don't trust my judgement anymore
So Can I ask for some opinions?? Here is the room - its a hard one to furnish as it has no solid wall. One wall is windows to the front, one is a fireplace and the other two open out to the entry and hall. Do I continue the colour scheme into this room? You don't see it from the other room? Here is the colour from the other room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ where do I place the furniture???????? My thoughts are a chaise in front of the windows, and two chairs along the hall. Here is what I had in mind. This in a day bed Sorry wont let me copy pics http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Product.aspx?product=426 And am I bold enough to go for a funky chair??? http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Product.aspx?product=7790 Should I go for the day bed in white?? Is it too light for the room? They have a nice soft brown (similar to the curtain). Here is another chair I like http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Product.aspx?product=2504 Sorry if it is a bit confusing - imagine how I feel Oh by the way, for those of you who are interested, this is the hall table in its new home. I will be in a similar predicament with furnishing our living room, 1 solid wall, which will house the TV, bifolds on the other two walls and then entrances leading off to the kitchen, laundry and guest bathroom. Is there going to be a TV in that room? Or is it a sitting room with the fireplace? I like the white but I think the soft brown might be better with marks etc and IMO look nice in the room. I like the green funky chair, it looks stylish. Your house looks lovely! Re: help with furniture 5Oct 19, 2008 11:27 am cocteau What's wrong with the hall table? I originally bought it for the entrance hall, where I already have this long piece of art work. It was too short for the space, and looked very odd. I have found a place where they will make me one to any length and width. Paula Re: help with furniture 6Oct 19, 2008 12:50 pm Looks like your hall table is right at home in its new spot!
Hmm, sitting room...fireplace... warm brown tones, I'm thinking of the chaise/day bed in the brown - have you thought of something like this in the room (in a different fabric), it makes me think of retiring to a comfy chair after dinner with a cigar and a good cognac (maybe I've been watching too much TV): http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Product.aspx?product=2525 And this sort of thing instead of a traditional coffee table? It would contrast nicely with the straight lines of the fireplace and bookcases etc: http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au/Product.aspx?product=2009 Whaddayareckon? Re: help with furniture 7Oct 19, 2008 1:12 pm Hey
I dont think the ottoman... I cant see a red wine balancing on that very well!! Re: help with furniture 8Oct 19, 2008 1:24 pm nicmic7475 Hey I dont think the ottoman... I cant see a red wine balancing on that very well!! Yep, fair comment. I wonder if red wine will be allowed in that room tho, considering the white carpet! You could always get a bit fancy and top the ottoman with a piece of glass the same size...? Re: help with furniture 9Oct 19, 2008 1:33 pm I like both the chairs you posted Paula and I love the ottoman that cocteau posted. Glass on top would look nice. I think a bit of colour in the room would be nice, soft browns etc. Room look quite white and bright already. I'm sure it will end up looking lovely Are you keeping the Romans? I love them but wondering what the colour is? Do you need to tie some of the furniture in with them or not? Happy at Home Re: help with furniture 10Oct 19, 2008 1:35 pm Hmmmmm if it were my house id be scared of red wine in there too!!
Outside for us! But then we arnt going to have carpet anywhere either! Re: help with furniture 11Oct 19, 2008 1:35 pm absolutely agree with going for a brown lounge. that way you are using the same colour as in the other room, and by adding the different colour inthe chairs it will make it its own room, if that makes sense.
Love love love the red chair. The green flower chair will continue the colour scheme from the other room. either way I think a different chair is the way to go for that wow factor. So, I like your white day bed, with either the green chair you liked or the grey one cocteau posted, and the ottoman is nice too but not sure if it would go with those chairs? I am not good with matching patterns, I think it can work sometimes but I don't know when. Hall table looks good ! Where is that spot? this in a day bed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ funky chair Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ anothr funky chair Hey Paula, I posted your pics as it made it easier for me to have a look at and its late and I have the time.. I like the Sofa along the 2 windows and the 2 armchairs along the hall. If its going to be a sitting room, I would do something a little less safe as it then becomes a special occasions room and you can always go outside the boundaries a little in these rooms. I would go the white sofa 3 seater or 2.5 with this rug Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and 2 of these chairs Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ with this cushion on the white sofa Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Sorry I couldn't reduce the size of the chairs easily.....so they are shouting a bit but there you go ............................ I would keep the room light and add the colour of brown and green with your accessories(rug ,cushions and a picture or vase) so it flows with your other room but doesn't look the same as your other room. Re: help with furniture 15Oct 20, 2008 7:29 am Love the lounge you picked and I would do white since the other one is brown and this will be a kid free area, I just love white lounges but I'll never have one with my two kids and dog!
I do think the brown would look lovely too though, but white to me is just stunning. I think the white lounge with the green chairs would be perfect. I think if you have an accent colour you should use it throughout all the rooms for flow, so the lime in that chair is perfect. The chairs that cocteau selected are nice but maybe a bit too big if they won't be against a wall. I think the ottoman idea is great too, but if you getting stand out chairs then I'd go the plain ottoman in either white or one of hte colours from the chairs.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also think PK did really well, I like those chairs too and there's a bit of lime on those cushions, but I think it might be a bit subtle in comparison to your other room where the green really pops. Re: help with furniture 19Oct 20, 2008 10:07 am Thanks for posting the pics!!! I couldn't work out how to do it
Thanks for all the ideas. I was lucky enough to have the saleslady over yesterday with fabric and leather samples - DH knows her DH . We shared a bottle of wine and I picked her brain. The day bed will be a bit short, so I have decided on the 3 seater in white. I will also get the small square ottoman in the pic in white leather - believe me I tried to get a bigger one in a great fabric, but just couldn't get the room to work. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ She suggested one chair as they are quite big, and it should be the feature. This is the one. I'm going for a neutral colour, as once again her good advise is to bring in the colour in cushions and accessories, so they can be changed with the trends. My favorite fabric so far is the one in the pic but in stone-neutral colours. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I will get some cushions made up in the chair fabric to go on the couch. She wouldn't let me make a decision on the fabric until I'd seen some more so she is bringing some more around so I can see how they work with the carpet. The other advise I got was not to get a coffee table until the furniture was in place - she said I may not even need one. Its all Australian made so I can have it before Xmas It was so nice to see the samples in the room - it certainly made up my mind that white was the way to go. Paula Re: help with furniture 20Oct 20, 2008 10:23 am That sounds great Paula, I think one will be perfect.
That Ottoman I pasted the pic of was the same range as the lounge and is quite big? The small ones will look great too though and they're very versatile seating. Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7960 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12560 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7236 |
