Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 06, 2008 9:49 pm Hi guys...
So I'm up to finalising the externals. I really don't have time to go to a tile centre, I don't drive and all these places are at least 90 minutes away. We're not too fussed about the roof, we don't think it's really all that noticeable unless it's outstandingly lovely (would love a colorbond roof but we have to stick to standard), so we just want something that kind of disappears, preferably light grey (but it seems we don't have many options). I've put this in Michelle's forum but would appreciate as much help as I can get!! This is the facade we ended up settling on... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ These are the bricks... Hubby is set on silver windows and won't budge, but they might still end up white... So for roof tiles we can choose from Boral Macquarie, Contour and Slimline range. I'm finding it really hard to get a good idea of which colour will be closest to what we want, I know I should go and check them in person but I just don't know how I'll get there and I need to figure it out asap! So these are the ones I've narrowed it down to.. I really want a pale grey, like a shale grey. And then I think I might just go for surfmist gutters and fascia do you think? The garage will be surfmist but this colour is really confusing because in my colorbond sample chips it's slightly off white but in other pictures it's pale grey. The garage door on the display is surfmist and it's definitely white so I'm hoping it's consistent for the gutters/fascia and these will just appear white like in my mock up. As for downpipes I guess I'll have to stick with surfmist as I don't want to introduce another colour? Dune is also very confusing because on the colorbond chips it would actually be perfect for our render colour and also downpipes but in the dulux colour brochure it's much more grey. Thanks for any help! Re: Concrete Roof Tiles and other Externals - help!! 2Oct 06, 2008 10:00 pm Hi Rachelle,
Well done on the facade - you've put lots of work into it and it looks lovely. In my first look at all those tiles my first preference was for the Macquarie Mineral, followed by the Macquarie Walnut. The Mineral one looks closest to the pale colorbond colours you prefer IMO. And I would go Surfmist for eaves/fascia/gutter etc - it always looks white to me Re: Concrete Roof Tiles and other Externals - help!! 3Oct 06, 2008 10:08 pm Ditto Donuts - you have done a great job on your facade
I personally like the shape of the contour tiles the best, and I think the Walnut would work really well with all your other colours But if you were to go for a lighter one I would say the Mineral, I'd love to see what lighter tiles look like on a roof as I have only ever seen the darker ones My karma ran over your dogma Re: Concrete Roof Tiles and other Externals - help!! 4Oct 06, 2008 11:04 pm I wouldn't use the Walnut as the house has pale grey colours (Surfmist). I'd use the Storm Grey or Mineral.
Might be worth giving Boral a call and asking if there are any houses near you that use the roof colour you're looking at. Judie Re: Concrete Roof Tiles and other Externals - help!! 5Oct 07, 2008 11:30 am If your looking for something to just blend into the background, my choice would be the
Macquarie Mineral. Ring the supplier and ask for a sample to be sent to you! The forum voted for six windows to the front and two horizontal ones on the side but it was just too much for me so I spent more and more time fiddling and am comfortable with this.
That's a great idea Judie, I'm going to call them right now, except it's probably too late dammit, will call tomorrow. Michelle do you have a sample of the Mineral? Although it's not my favorite profile it's looking like the only colour that is close to what I want. I just don't know if it might be too wishy washy with the nougat bricks, do you have a sample of those too? I am going to ring Boral and hopefully they can send me a couple of samples. What really annoys me is that for example the storm grey colour looks different in all three photos, is it the same colour on all profiles? And is the mineral on the concrete the same colour as the terracotta mineral? Not expecting answers, just expressing frustrations! Re: Concrete Roof Tiles and other Externals - help!! 8Oct 07, 2008 4:31 pm This is a display home here in Perth that we found some of the colours because we like the way they all went together. For the roof here is an example in colourbond pale grey or like a shale grey. Gutters are the same as the roof and fascia is matched to the render. The garage door on this display is surfmist. The downpipes are painted the same colour as the render so that they blend in and don't stand out I know this is a different feel to your house but they are all similar in the colours you are looking at except for it being all over render. The windows were white frames. Not sure of the render colour sorry. Loving what you have done so far Rachelle. My vote only because its what I would choose is the Macquarie Storm Grey. Sorry Rachelle, I don’t keep bricks and roof tiles, my office gets a bit crowded as it is. I only keep the selections I use most. Sorry about that. If we were going with a colorbond roof we'd go for Shale grey, which I think is in that pic.
Thanks Michelle, yes I can imagine you'd get pretty crowded if you tried to store brick and roof tile samples!!! Thanks for your advice! I'm going to call them for some samples now, wish me luck!
