Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 06, 2008 7:21 am Hi Michelle (or anybody else that has an opinion)
Dad (god bless him) is coming down this weekend to put up the framework behind the rendered garden beds. I've been tossing up with colours for the last 6 months!! I really don't want to get this wrong. I have put a pic up (hopefully you can see it) of what I am thinking. The red is the fence (it is getting painted and will be a red/burgundy colour). The pavers are a light colour (cream) .. more of a yellow cream than the 'grey' cream if that makes sense. The bamboo screens behind the plants .... there are two types I am looking at .. the darker on the left and the lighter one. I'm more inclined to go the darker but I think it depends on the colors I choose. I like both. The feature wall in between must be green .. why? Because I like green and John has given his approval that it can be green. Just trying to find the right green is really really hard!! So .... my questions: 1. Darker or lighter bamboo? 2. Depending on the colour bamboo, do the render colours look OK? 3. Does anybody have any suggestions of 'greens' they have used that look good. I don't like the Kermit the Frog green. sorry for such a long post .. didn't mean it to be so rambly. Hope Mish can come up with a colour for you Paula Re: Outdoor Colour for patio area 3Oct 06, 2008 4:12 pm Hi Amber….
I like the darker Bamboo, it will give depth to all the other colours. Thanks again Michelle - Kiwi Fruit it is!! That's exactly the sort of green I like. I'm going to assume that's a Dulux colour. Pics will follow in a few weeks. Getting very exciting now!! The backyard will actually be liveable by Christmas!! Woo hoo. Re: Outdoor Colour for patio area 6Oct 14, 2008 6:48 am Well our structure was completed on the weekend ... just have to paint the blueboard and render the brickwork.
Kiwi Fruit is a bit more 'lime green' than I thought it would be ... I think I like it .. but not sure once I do the whole lot whether it will be just a little bit too bright. I know most people can't stand green, but any idea if this will really look a bit too much? I know it's my house and I can have what I want ... but I don't want people to avoid coming over for a BBQ because their eyes hurt!!! Stick with it; make sure you put some red leave plants in like the Dracaena to accentuate each other’s colours. I've been spending day after day at nurseries .. getting myself more and more confused about what type of plant should go in front of the screens. aaaggghhhhh .. how do landscaper's do it!!!
That plant is beautiful Michelle ... I actually found that site the other day (Plants International) and it looked quite reasonable for price.. I just get a bit worried about the quality by the time they reach me!! This is my latest 'artist's impression' ... I'm a bit excited about it all and therefore not doing any work!!!!! If you get there when they get a new load in, you get it straight from the supplier and the plants are still in really good condition. After they have been in K-Mart a few weeks they start to go down, that’s a good time to buy if you’re looking for a discount, but you need to know how to get the plants back up again. Otherwise, it off to the nursery, but there are a few people on here that have bought over the net and they said the plants were good! These nurseries' mailing methods are set up to ensure that your plants arrive in good health.
I did my entire front yard with plants through the post. I wouldn't do it any other way. It is extremely cheap. Pick up any gardening magazine, flip to the back cover & away you go. Of course you need to know which planst thrive in your area, so do some research first. But you'll save heaps. Something like Cordyline Red Sensation or Cabernet might be more hardy and drought tolerant. After 4 years - we're in! Michelle - thanks so much for encouraging me to stick with the Kiwi Fruit. Husband doesn't even like green and he LOVES this colour. Can't wait to plant it up and get the pavers down.
