I love white kitchens and have never seen one look bad, so I don't think the cupboards are the problem. I would add the waterfall - it finishes off your benchtop nicely. I would also paint the bulkhead. If cost allows it - I would re-do the splashback (as I think deep down this is your main dislike) - choose a colour you love and make sure you get it on Starfire glass Good Luck My karma ran over your dogma Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 42Oct 05, 2008 11:45 am haywgl ..... choose a colour you love and make sure you get it on Starfire glass Good Luck Remember you only need the expensive starfire glass if you go with a light colour. If you go dark, then you only need regular (clear float), which will save you money. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 45Oct 05, 2008 5:48 pm Oh Sharee, you are soo funny. I thought someone had photoshopped my kitchen with different colours, then I realized it was yours It's great seeing another kitchen like mine (but better looking!).
I think my deep seeded problems are all about that splashback!!!!!! Yes it needs to go, as I can't seem to get over it So I will prioritize and decide on either the splash back or waterfall. Hmmmmm The bulkhead is a quick paint, so no probs there. I might play with cut and paste and see what a different splashback will do for the kitchen. Thanks Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 46Oct 05, 2008 6:23 pm I read over my post and thought oh what an idiot it looks like I'm just randomly posting a picture of my kitchen, but I promise I had good intentions!
I'm actually stressing about my splashback colour as well, I didn't know anything about the different glasses either I guess if you had your heart set on a different colour splashback then I vote rip it out and replace it I think it will have a bigger impact on the kitchen than just adding the waterfall. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 47Oct 05, 2008 9:05 pm I think the only thing that looks out of place is the colour of the splashback. It doesn't seem to go with the wall colour or the bench tops. The rest of the kitchen looks great. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 48Oct 06, 2008 7:25 pm Well I have just found the pictures from the displays that were my inspiration
So much for inspiraton, I managed to get most of it wrong! I noticed that the Metric@n website has updated their pics and they are both different. One has a white splashback and the other an olive. What do you think guys? The wooden overheads are what I was thinking about adding too! Husband said that we might need to do a tile splashback b/c of $$$$ Enjoy! An if you are over this thread, no need to apologise, I totally understand Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 49Oct 06, 2008 7:33 pm I like both the kitchens you posted - I don't think you could go wrong with a white splashback - alot of people do all white kitchens and they come up great
If you want a splash of colour though, the first pic you posted would also very nice, it throws off more of a green tinge than the blue in your current one My karma ran over your dogma Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 51Oct 06, 2008 7:50 pm Hi miss81, I like your splashback colour very much, it looks great with the white, but I do think the wall colour needs changing. If after that you still aren't happy do the frosted doors, and the waterfall edge would finish the bench off nicely. Once you get your rangehood in and some nice silver bits it will look a lot brighter. Kitchens are so stressful aren't they! Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 52Oct 06, 2008 8:55 pm I found this info about splashbacks on Real Living mag's website:
Firstly, is the glass glued on, or is it screwed into the wall? If it's the latter, you can easily remove, repaint, and refix the glass. If that's not possible, then this is a tricky one. Anything you apply to the glass may scratch off as it's a well worn area of the kitchen. I would suggest a film over the glass — talk to a glazier, or glass suppliers as to any domestic applications they may have. Judie Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 53Oct 07, 2008 8:02 am Mmm your kitchen hasn't turned out like the pics has it?
I know now why you wanted the timber overheads, they look great. I don't think the timber will go with your splash back though. Oh the decisions.... Keep us updated! Paula Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 54Oct 07, 2008 8:49 am I really don't think that changing the overhead cupboards is going to make much difference, nor will adding the waterfall, although that will look great, but it won't fix the problem.
I think the problem is the wall colour combined with the splashback colour - one of them has to go. Also the bulkhead needs to be painted the same colour as the rest of walls. I vote change the splashback, white tiles would look great! Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 55Oct 07, 2008 9:26 am Hi Miss81,
Thought I'd let you know that there is a place, (I think it's south eastern splashbacks, I can find out for sure if you want), but they put new splashbacks over existing ones. Friends of ours got it done, she hated hers, & you can't tell, it looks fantastic. It cost what it would it you got a new splashback less removal costs. Hope this helps. Cheers, Pip. downlights in the cupboards with frosted glass doors. 56Oct 09, 2008 10:56 am frosted glass doos on the overheads for sure.... what about putting some downlights in them to light it up a bit for when you have people around. you can put proper downlights in or get those ones that you screw into the top of the cupboard... i think they can also run on batteries (ikea has some) for the budget conscious.
Hope that makes sense. I explained it will still have a green colour to it, he told me to find a colour that won't look bad behind the glass.... hmmmmmm. Yes, he says we have lots of better things to do with the $$$$. So as I continue my hunt for the perfect kitchen, I will google his idea and see what they recommend. But I do LOVE the idea od new splashback, o'h cupboards and waterfall edge..... gee, maybe I should just build again Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 58Oct 09, 2008 6:09 pm No,no,no !
They are usually siliconed in place. The glass will shatter or come away in pieces. You'll make a big mess. Rather replace with another one over the top Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 59Oct 09, 2008 6:28 pm Yep…they are not the thing to remove and mess around with.
I have spoken to a guy that installs them, pretty much once their up…..that’s it. Will you do the waterfall edge in stone I have seen a waterfall in laminate top stone looked good If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval. The fact that they previously approved your 25sqm patio will be irelevant 1 5494 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me.
