Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 04, 2008 7:19 pm So as many of you may know, I don't really like the way my kitchen has turned out
So I am going to change it, on a budget! What do you think of changing the overhead cupboards to a wood grain and adding a waterfall edge? Do you think the colours are wrong or would you do something else? Opinions welcome WARNING- very bad cut and paste job below. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 2Oct 04, 2008 7:22 pm I really like the waterfall edge - it seems to finish off the bench. But I must say that I don't think that the light timber doors really match. I think that I would stick with a shade closer to your benchtop - but then again I am having ming blue cstone benchtops so not many people like my taste Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 3Oct 04, 2008 7:26 pm What about changing the top doors to frosted glass? it will give a totally different look. And before changing much else, I'd look at a different paint colour for the kitchen.
Judie Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 4Oct 04, 2008 7:51 pm Thanks for the warning!!!
Thats a very bad cut and paste job I dont like the timber look at all - I agree maybe try frosted glass. The warterfall looks great! Paula Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 5Oct 04, 2008 8:08 pm I don’t like the timber either.
I like Judy’s idea about frost doors. They’ll match your glass splashbacks. I can’t understand why there is an overlap on the front of your bench. It should have stopped flush with the side. And the join in the front is really noticeable, to me it should have had a kickboard as well. I’d look at changing that front. With one full sheet of something! Glass maybe? Maybe not, too expensive. This way you only have to change the doors, not all of the cabinets. ( I hate my gap in the front of the bench as well but I bet we get used to it!)
I really like your kitchen and I think once you are in and the appliances are around it will look really good BUT you are probably like me and once you've decided you don't like something then that is it, so if that is the case then I thnk the frosted glass with aluminium frames is a great idea for the top cupboards, if you don't like that idea then I would go a dark wood , similar to the bench colour. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 8Oct 04, 2008 8:41 pm Hi Miss 81
I'm not sure what has been said in your other thread, but why haven’t you continued your main wall colour on the bulkhead? What I can see is that you have 3 different whites together...white ceiling, white bulkhead then white cupboards, all different tones of white. I would leave the kitchen exactly how it is but paint the bulkhead. Live with it for 6 months then reassess. I have just been reading a thread on another forum about someone who is really unhappy with their kitchen. The responses she got were actually very heartfelt. ( Takes a little while to load) http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/ki ... 24.html?47 I know exactly how you feel because there are some mistakes I have made with my house build that are cringe worthy but I have to live with them now. When everything is in, hopefully I won’t focus on them. Mrs B Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 9Oct 04, 2008 8:54 pm I quite like your kitchen. It is pretty standard as far as I can see. I think the glass splashback is a bit dark for my taste but maybe under-cabinet down lights would make a difference. I agree with Michelle, I think the front needs to be changed & that could make quite a bit of difference. Would look much better with kickboards (even if there was still a join). I also think Mrs B is right about the baulkhead which needs to be painted the same as the wall colour. Then I would wait to see what it looks like once your appliances & floor is in - I think it will look nice Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 12Oct 04, 2008 9:48 pm Thank you so much for your honest replies!
I like the idea about aluminium doors with frosted glass, sounds great. Will break up the whole white thing happening. Michelle, I don't know why the front panel keeps going right to the end of the bench, I don't like it either but didn't know if it was normal. Will look into the display home pics and see what they had. Mrs B, the bulkhead is the wrong white (needs to be changed) and we will be painting it the colour of the kitchen. Should work much better. The top cabinets are actually the same as the bottom, but in pics it shows a different shade. So I say it has to go In regards to those of you who don't like the splashback - I HATE it!!!!! It's actually the wrong colour and we have had issues regarding it Definitely the waterfall edge, I will save all my pennies to fix my kitchen... who needs carpet anyway??!!!! I will see if I can scare you all with a 'cut and paste' of aluminium doors with frosting. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 13Oct 04, 2008 9:51 pm miss81 I will see if I can scare you all with a 'cut and paste' of aluminium doors with frosting. Scare away……at least you can do it!!! Are you able to see what the bulkhead would look like in your main wall colour as well - I think that would look better? I will see if I can scare you all with a 'cut and paste' of aluminium doors with frosting. you're funny miss81! Bit late, but I also agree about the frosted overhead cabinets and waterfall edge. You say you are painting the bulkhead the same colour as the kitchen--but if you change the top cupboards to frosted, you'd still have 3 different things going on there - I think the bulkheads should be the same as the main wall colour meself. I read some of those comments in Mrs B's link, some of those replies are spot on - particularly the one that said something like - if you cook and raise your family and live in your kitchen, it's perfect.. Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 16Oct 04, 2008 10:27 pm OK here it is guys, waterfall edge with painted bulkead.
I think it already looks better In regards to the aluminium doors, do you mean silver/brushed colour aluminium doors or white???? My mum just walked in and asked tme, to ask you guys if changing the splashback and adding the waterfall edge would be a better option??? Hmmmmm?? Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 17Oct 04, 2008 10:33 pm I think your mum might be right - aren't they always...
Looking at it now with the bulkhead the same as your wall colour (which looks good) I don't think there is anything wrong with your overhead cupboards. I think if you don't like your splashback that is always going to be the issue for you - not a cheap option to change though...... Re: Want to Change kitchen (already) - opinions needed!!! 18Oct 04, 2008 10:33 pm I think the kitchen looks fine.. the waterfall edge certainly make the kitchen look better. I would change the colour of the splashback, and the kickboard colour, if your budget allows.. oh! and paint the the bulkhead, same as wall colour, cause before it looks like they were just 'forgotten'..

Yes. I don’t mind the splashback. But it would be the most expensive thing to do... If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval. The fact that they previously approved your 25sqm patio will be irelevant 1 5494 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me.
