Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: Bedroom theme - need help with window furnishings 21May 30, 2010 8:32 pm Why hello there lovelies. A while ago I put a whole heap of ideas up about our future master bedroom, mainly with the idea of getting some feedback around window furnishings (see first post). As our house is only at base stage, I don't have the luxury of an actual room to show you via photo's to get your feedback about all my ideas and how they're going to work... BUT what I do have is a clever 3D modeller hubby who can put nearly all my ideas into a pretty 3D image. Which is exactly what he has done for me. So a few notes about the pic: - The quilt cover is the colour theme of ours, but as you can see in the original post, the actual quilt cover is a floral print. - The bed, bedside tables, lamps and artwork are all models of the exact items we will have in the room (although the art work is just 4 each of two of our prints as hubby drew the line at modelling up 8 different pieces of artwork to put around my butterfly specimens ). - The carpet is a pretty close match to ours (we believe) and as you can see, we've taken the feedback and put in dark venetian blinds with white light weight curtains. - The colour on the walls is Wattyl 'Kid Leather' and the feature wall is Dulux 'Squirt'... Sooooo, what do you think? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What would you change? (bearing in mind that the Kid Leather paint and the carpet are set in stone) Would you add a rug under or in front of the bed? We were thinking of a blanket box... Would you make the lamps bigger? Would you change the arrangement of artwork? Would you add a pattern/texture to the curtains? We have a house in Doreen. Built the PD Kensington 24 (with Alfresco & Rumpus option). Yes to the blanket box from me...the wall near the window looks like it needs something on it to me Glad you like the 'squirt', I'm quite fond of it. Blanket box looks like a goer, it will also be useful for our boy dog (Sweep) as he likes his space when sleeping (as opposed you our girl dog Sooty who loves to sleep in luxury on the quilt ). Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 24May 30, 2010 9:33 pm Wow Cal! You and your hubby make a dynamic team! What a talented and creative partnership. Your 3D mock up is incredible. I love the colours you have going on. I'm keen on your rug under the end of the bed idea. And I personally like rather large lamps, but those look nice and unobtrusive. Well done! Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 25May 30, 2010 10:04 pm Wow that's nice. What a clever boy. Personally I LOVE it all. ME, I would add a rug, a luxurious one. I would also add a few more pillows. Love the colours, love the artworks. Nive feel to it. Thanks Fel...It's really Matt who is that talented one, I just look over his shoulder and ask for stuff to be done lol... I agree about the lamps, still undecided on those. They are available at Freedom and are lovely, but may want to look at going a touch bigger. themax Wow that's nice. What a clever boy. Personally I LOVE it all. I certainly appreciate the skill (not least because it's his career and helps pay the bills ) I think a 'luxurious' rug would be lovely. I think we will look to add that in, will have to add that to my internet research 'to do' list Oh and 'squirt' is the name of the Dulux colour on the feature wall We have a house in Doreen. Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 27May 31, 2010 3:41 am I have seen a showhome with a chaise lounge in front of the window area like you have, not sure if you need a quiet area away from children. Your room colours are beautifull. I love the Squirt, I wasnt sure what that was to start with, water feature????? Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 28May 31, 2010 1:28 pm Well done - the imaging and colours are gorgeous. I will be the voice of dissention here - I really don't like rugs on top of carpet. Fine on tiles / timber floor but don't get the carpet on top of carpet look. I do however agree that a lovely arm chair / chaise / ottoman in same tonings as your feature wall would look gorgeous either at the foot of the bed or alternatively in front of the window. Some things are worth waiting for. Deemaree kyton-I'm with you on the rug on carpet thing Kyton and Deemaree...I'm liking your thinking... And now that I think about it, when we were doing the walkthrough of the display versions of our house, we quite often commented on the space to put a chaise/chair in that corner...and with children a definite future possibility a chair there for sitting with bub in the middle of the night could be a winner... Will see if Matty feels like putting something together...(better get ready for tea making and baking duties as a sweetener for all this additional work ) We have a house in Doreen. Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 31May 31, 2010 4:22 pm ThatGirlCal - there you go, forward thinking LOL. I have a lovely wing arm chair in the nursery for our 4am feeds (Master S is almost 5mths old). You could do a lovely comfy chair that will accessorise the room and be useful. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 32May 31, 2010 6:06 pm I’m very partial to long ottomans at the end of the bed, love the look; I have one in my bedroom. Love the soft blue feature wall, normally I don’t, as people tend to get it wrong sometimes, but that’s a lovely colour! I think hubby should rethink the amount of frames you put up, that formation is excellent. It's very much a clean lines bedroom, probably could do with some silver on the side tables either in frames or nick knacks to make it more personal. I like the plain curtains……they don’t pull away from the feature wall. It’s a lovely room…just needs a little more personal touch to it. The feature wall colour is beautiful. Might have a look at that for one of our rooms! I have also been thinking of having venetians with drapes inside. Seems they only ship in the US /quote] Hi Sarah, Thanks for the comments on the bedroom mockup...I really love looking at it when I'm having a 'when will my house be ready to move into' moment ...I've even just picked up two small chrome look sparrows for one of the bed side tables to start the 'personalisation' process...Now I'm on a strict 'no buying' mission till we get into the house and I see what I'm actually working with... Etsy is a great place. It's quite addictive. I think I will be getting a lot of little bits and pieces from there for christmas gifts this year. There are a number of sellers that ship to just the US only, but be patient and sift through the listings and you'll find a lot that ship worldwise. Also, if you go to etsy.com, click 'buy' at the top of the screen, then scroll down to the 'buy local' link and type in Australia and you can buy just home grown items. Obviously that won't solve the problem of sourcing overseas items that can be shipped to Oz, but at least you know the Aussie sellers will ship domestically... Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 35Jun 28, 2010 9:14 pm I am sometimes finding it hard to visualise what colours, blinds etc will look good. I'm just going to wait until we are in and all the main stuff is in place... Then the shopping will really begin! That is where Etsy comes in. Thanks for the tip with regards to shopping worldwide... I saw an artist I liked but it seems he only ships to US. I will keep searching! Building Monaco32 with Carlisle Homes in Alamanda Estate 20/08/2010 - HANDOVER 24/8!! I recognise your ceiling fan. We have that exact one in our games room. It's about 3 m from where I'm sitting right now and right in front of me. I love the blue wall shade with the butterfly pics. nice choice of colour matching. Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 37Aug 21, 2010 8:12 pm Hi Cal, I was looking through this thread and I love the 3 cushions you bought from etsy. Do you know if they are still available and if so on which page? I have looked through endless pages under pillows but cannot see them. Perhaps they have sold out? Re: Bedroom theme - now with 3D pic of ideas 38Aug 21, 2010 9:14 pm Sahana Hi Cal, I was looking through this thread and I love the 3 cushions you bought from etsy. Do you know if they are still available and if so on which page? I have looked through endless pages under pillows but cannot see them. Perhaps they have sold out? Hey Sahana, The seller is 'jonesgi' - However, when I went to her shop on etsy it says that she is on vacation for a couple of weeks, but you can get an email notification when she returns (as I think that's when the shop becomes available to view again). You may even be able to make the shop a 'favourite' if you're an etsy member I think. I really like her stuff and she is just absolutely lovely to deal with which is why I find shopping on etsy such a pleasure in general really. Good luck... ----------------------------------------- Just a little update on this thread and how the bedroom plans are going. As the fabulous Michelle suggested, I have picked up a few 'knick knacks' to make the room our own. We have picked up 2 cute little silver birds from Bed Bath and Table and some of those glass dome paper weights with some butterflies and paris imanges plus a gorgeous little clear cube with butterflies inside which is so intriguing to look at...I will try and post pics of those things soon. I've also definitely decided on choc brown venetians in the windows with a very light (read see through) white curtain over each window opening with a light grey/silver-ish heavier eyelet curtains to sit on either side of the windows along one long rail over the two windows and then a shorter single rod over the single window closer to the bed. It sounds odd when I describe it, but the idea behind the heavier curtains is really an energy efficiency motivated idea as I want to be able to trap as much heat as possible escaping/entering from those windows. As promised I will update with pics as they become available We have a house in Doreen. Built the PD Kensington 24 (with Alfresco & Rumpus option). I only went on to etsy this w/e. I didn't realise you could shop via seller so will try and work that out. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your bedroom. It sounds beautiful. Re: Bedroom theme - now with actual pics 40Jan 15, 2011 9:54 pm Why hello there...quite a few months back I posted a 3D image of how I wanted our master bedroom to look...at the time of initial posting we were nowhere near a completed house...Well, now the house is complete and I have decorated the bedroom. It's not exactly how it will look when it's 'finished' (when is a room ever finished anyways) but it's getting close. You will notice we haven't painted a feature wall in the aqua-ish colour on the wall the bed is against as originally planned...We may do this in the future, but at the moment this is working for us... If you see anything that could be improved or have any suggestions, please do post as I'd love to hear any thoughts...(I am a complete novice at this stuff and only go by what I like and have no real idea about design principles ) All that's left to do is: - Install the ceiling fan (still going with a choc brown teak with brushed crome finish for the fan) - Shorten curtains (just Freedom Shantung curtains) - Reupholster a valet (70's era) for my hubby to put against the wall with the butterfly specimens on, which is where he will hang work clothes etc (rather than leaving them on the floor near his bed which is what he has always done ) So here is the initial 3D image that hubby put together: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here is how it looks today: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have a house in Doreen.
