Browse Forums Recipes 1 Oct 05, 2010 4:20 pm Just wondering what some peoples 'signature' dishes are at BBQ's / Parties or simple entertaining?
I don't take the 'same thing' everytime. I like to mix it up with different healthy options. Sister inlaw's dish is - Potato Salad Other sis inlaw is - Mini pavlova Mother inlaw - Vanilla Slice What is yours? If you can, include a recipe to go with it.. Re: Food, glorious FOOD - What's your signature dish at part 5Oct 05, 2010 4:31 pm ojaaynme Pasta Salad - I think people need to include their recipes with their signature dishes???? GREAT idea ojaaynme Re: Food, glorious FOOD - What's your signature dish at part 7Oct 05, 2010 4:49 pm I LOVE choc ripple cake too- part of the reason why I started making them!!! The recipe for chocolate ripple cake is 600ml thickened cream 1 tsp caster sugar 1 tsp vanilla essence 1 x 250g packet Arnott’s Choc Ripple Biscuits 1 Peppermint Crisp to the decorate the cake 1. Very easy to make- just put the cream, sugar and vanilla in a bowl and beat using an electric beater until stiff. 2. Spread a little of the cream onto the base of a rectangle/long serving plate. 3. Spread one biscuit with cream then sandwich with another biscuit. Repeat until all biscuits have been used and form a log. 4. Spread the remaining cream over the log to cover it entirely. 5. Place the cake in the fridge (I usually make it the night before otherwise the bisuits don't have enough time to soften and are too crunchy). 6. Just before serving, I crush the peppermint crisp and sprinkle it over the top!! Re: Food, glorious FOOD - What's your signature dish at part 8Oct 05, 2010 6:20 pm Pico de Gallo. I can never seem to make enough of it. * FOR THE PICO DE GALLO: * 5 whole Plum (roma) Tomatoes * ½ whole Large (or 1 Small) Onion use red onion * 3 whole Jalapeno Peppers I often only use 1 or 2 and remove seeds * Cilantro aka coriander * Lime Juice * Salt To Taste Preparation Instructions Pico de Gallo: Chop jalapenos, tomatoes and onions into a very small dice. (Leave seeds in your jalapenos for a hotter pico). Adjust amount of jalapenos to your preferred temperature. Next, chop up a nice-sized bunch of cilantro. Just remove and discard the long leafless stems before chopping. No need to remove the leaves from the stems completely. Place all of these ingredients together in a bowl and give it a good stir. Squeeze the juice of half of one lime into the bowl. Add salt to taste and stir again. Maybe I should ask for the recipe. Re: Food, glorious FOOD - What's your signature dish at part 11Oct 05, 2010 9:14 pm My husband is always asked to make his Hooters Wings when his mates come over. I love them... as long as we have the blue cheese dipping sauce. Here's the recipe: Ingredients 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup louisiana hot sauce (you can buy this in the David Jones Food Hall- Luckily i got a heap when i was overseas last) 1 dash pepper, Ground 1 dash garlic powder 1/2 cup flour 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt 10 chicken wings bleu cheese salad dressing celery vegetable oil, for frying 1- Combine the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt in a small bowl. 2- If the wings are frozen, be sure to defrost and dry them. 3- Put the wings into a large bowl and sprinkle the flour mixture over them, coating each wing evenly. 4-Put the wings in the refrigerator for 60 to 90 minutes. (This will help the breading to stick to the wings when fried.) 5-Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees (F). 6- You want just enough oil to cover the wings entirely -- an inch or so deep at least. Combine the butter, hot sauce, ground pepper, and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until the butter is melted and the ingredients are well blended. 7- Put all the wings into the hot oil and fry them for 10 to 15 minutes or until some parts of the wings begin to turn dark brown. 8- Remove the wings from the oil to a paper towel to drain. 9- But don't let them sit too long, because you want to serve the wings hot. Quickly put the wings into a large bowl. 10- Add the hot sauce and stir, coating all the wings evenly. 11- You could also use a large plastic container with a lid for this. 12-Put all the wings inside the container, add the sauce, put on the lid, then shake. Serve with Bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks on the side.
