Re: Christmas menus and recipes 24Dec 24, 2009 5:36 pm Oh my goodness. So much food. You guys make me feel really lazy lol We had chrissy lunch last week end as hubby is away working again this year. Boo! One year he will be home for xmas. Had one off in last six years. So there is just my son and i. He doesnt like chicken, so we are doing a lamb roast. And he ordered jelly and custard for dessert. Beach in the day and then do chrissy dinner. Caz Re: Christmas menus and recipes 25Dec 24, 2009 7:37 pm ok if we were still living in the city our menu would be totally different because it would be our turn to do the Christmas meal deal bash this year but we are not. So tomorrow we will be doing a 2 1/2 hour drive to the city to stay with my mum and then visiting inlaws on Boxing day for a traditional Christmas dinner. Today i got given a double anti-biotics script to start taking. they are the sort that mean NO alcohol at all. So i'm starting them tomorrow and tonight I'm having a lovely bottle of chardonnay with assorted nibbles, Dips, polish sausage, crackers, cheeses for dinner. Hmm was planning on seafood and coleslaw but that was until I got the news. kids are having some of the same plus noodles and chilli con carne. Tomorrow though we , hubby and I and now eldest will have what has become our traditional croissants with ham and cheese and OJ for breakfast then a light lunch before getting in the car for a rather long , hot drive. Youngest will prob have toast or cereal as he can't eat anything rich/buttery like that and sit with us. Mum's planning fish and salads for tea tomorrow night. I almost can't wait. Dinner at the inlaws is pretty predictable but with my MIL there's sometimes an element of surprise. I do hope she will make some of her traditional fruit mince slice. ( the only fruit mince pie/mix i ever eat. i always hated this until I tried hers) she will usually make a huge choc mousse` ( eldest has already mentioned looking forward to this) and there will be pav and icecream etc. if My SIL and HUBBY were over there would be more dessert delights. To most this might seem very boring but my mum was a nurse and we often didn't have a "Christmas" lunch/dinner because she usually worked. Christmas dinner was cold meats, maybe chicken and a chance to visit with family. etc. When I first started going out with my hubby I had my first traditional christmas dinner. I still have the "toy" from that christmas cracker , 29 years later as well as the lovely gift my one day, to be MIL, gave me. Reporting that I've jumped on the mars bar cheesecake bandwagon - wish I'd found Kek's thread earlier; feel like such a copy-cat! From the ingredient tastings (read: I nabbed *both* beaters...so piggy!), have to say I think you're on a winner, Lisanne; thanks for sharing the secret The tantalising article in question will be matched up against my mother's decades-old, tried and tested pavlova with brandied cream and strawberries on top. It's going to be a tough fight. And, when I say "I've jumped", I mean DH kicked me out of *his* kitchen and made it tonight. It's currently sitting in the fridge awaiting transport to site in the morning. I think it's in mortal peril; my self-control's not what it used to be. Re: Christmas menus and recipes 29Dec 25, 2009 12:28 am it's "wafer thin" something i certainly won;t feel for days/weeks...... hmm though i can't remember the last time i did. "I'm stuffed" must have been the berries and icecream on top of the assorted crackers, cheese, sausage and wine I had for dinner tonight. It's sooooo yummy and pretty easy too, I hope it's a winner for you although the pav sounds delicious too! 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' The cheesecake was a winner! Thanks so much!! My mum, who has crohn's disease and can't/shouldn't eat choc for fear of a week's worth of reactions; and *doesn't like cheese* even launched into it; and had a 2nd helping. I'm in for it if she's crook tomorrow. Watching the 18-month-old nephew tackle pickled onions, anchovy stuffed olives and mersey valley cheese was a hoot lol; he loved 'em. But gawd, I feel crook in the guts haha - the feast started at 11am and didn't finish until the deserts had been cleaned up at 4pm. Sooooooooo much sugar. - Land registered 27/11/09, settlement 22/01/10 - Currently doing the rounds of display homes.
