It's a Dulux Colour but I'm using Wattyl ID advanced. I'm actually now thinking of using Lexicon Quarter, the blue/grey of the full strength is really worrying me. I don't want anything with a blue tone to it. I'd prefer a very, very subtle grey/black undertone and the Lexicon is 100% throwing a blue tone. I need to make a decision TODAY and It is causing so much stress. The house is not easy to paint so this is easily a 10 year decision. We have a massive stairwell which is why I need a painter to do it and the cost of this means that this won't be done again anytime soon so I have to like this colour. It doesn’t matter what brand of paint you actually use, but paint colour names are not absolute, so we need to know which company's colour portfolio you are choosing from. So to confirm, you are considering Dulux Lexicon, which is a cool white colour. I can feel that you are stressed, and I do not want to add to that, so please understand anything I write is just one person’s opinion. Moreover, while I can see you are located on the "Far South Coast" of NSW, as you have provided no images, I don't know what kind of house you have, what the light conditions are like, and why the situation has become so urgent, so please take that into account too. Personally, short of living north of the Tropic of Capricorn, I would never paint an entire home in such a cool white colour as Lexicon. I believe it will make the home feel cold, especially on an overcast winter's day like we are having today. I think it would be fine for utility areas such as laundries and bathrooms, but certainly not living areas, bedrooms and modern connected open plan kitchen/dining areas. Setting aside colour choice, which is patently very personal, I also wouldn’t paint all trims (architraves, skirtings, etc) the same colour as the walls, even if the sheen will be different. In my opinion, it might look great in dark and moody high-end designer apartments (and even then, just one or two rooms), but not the average home. Also, you need to consider the impact of the colour of all other surfaces, such as wall, ceilings and doors, and even the colours that you see through windows. Finally, I would spend more time on this, even if it means delaying the painters. Being under stress is not the best way to make a considered and rational decision. I would take my time, build a sample or mood board, and paint large sections of my walls with sample paints and live with them for a while. You are investing a lot of money and will have to live with this for a long time, so please take your time. No painter is so important or so hard to come by that you need to be forced into a decision if you don’t feel ready to make. Painting - all one colour yes or no? 5Aug 12, 2020 9:23 am PS. There are so many paint colours in a brands portfolio. I believe if you start thinking about ½ and ¼ strengths you are in trouble and need to take a step back. It's kind of like trying to tell the difference between a bottles of the exact same wine just two years apart - most of us are not super tasters and really cannot tell. In my opinion, the same applies to paint strengths. Re: Painting - all one colour yes or no? 6Aug 12, 2020 10:07 am My whole house is done Lexicon quarter for walls and trim (matt for walls and enamel semi-gloss for doors and trim). This was recommended by the builder's color person as we wanted a modern looking white (we have a lot of glass and like a minimalist look), with no hint of cream, pink or blue. We are really happy with it. I don't see any blue at all. I guess some people might think it is too cool, but that is what we wanted Re: Painting - all one colour yes or no? 7Aug 12, 2020 7:04 pm thankyou for all the replies. I have settled on Lexicon Quarter. In the full sun even Lexicon Half I could see the blue undertone, but with Quarter it is barely there and not too white to be stark. I 100% am having all trim etc in the same colour, just a different sheen. I am not a fan at all of different coloured trim except in my kids rooms. We have a very light filled home which is North facing. I think the colour will look great, at the moment it is White Watsonia and I HATE it, I am not a fan at all of creams and can't wait until this colour is gone. The reason it is urgent is because the painting needs to be done while we are away, I have two very small children and we can't be in the home while it is all being painted and our trip starts Friday. Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY? Thanks 2 16408 Hi Simeon, Just a question, as you have been super helpful. Our electrical and plumbing is just about in, will be done by Friday afternoon. Our house is fully painted… 10 14911 |
