You can however look at redoing your side of the common wall, (new acoustic studs that deflect sound waves, soundchek plasterboard, insulation etc etc if not used already).... but that will not guarantee bass still coming through. Have to live with it or move I've been in the same situation, my issue got resolved after a letter to the managing agent with a majority of owner's request for eviction. Re: Soundproofing common wall in apartment 3Aug 03, 2020 8:28 pm As per what Revinator above is saying. If you do your homework you can employ a carpenter and have him work under your direction rather than engage a specialist company which will cost you a lot more. We have done a few places over the years and made a big difference before and after in similar situations. Strip the gyprock off your side and install sound deadening batts, two layers of Soundchek over that wall - joins staggered and using green glue as well. Build another stud wall in front of that with an air space between, more sound deadening batts, two layers of Soundchek again with a layer of MLV as well. Seal all gaps around this wall with acoustic sealant. All easily done if installed in the proper manner. https://soundproofliving.com/reduce-bass-noise/ There are other good websites offering similar advice. Does your common wall extend all the way up past your ceiling to the concrete slab above? it should for fireproof reasons. It makes the acoustic part easier. I should have added that because it is a separating wall you will have to get Strata approval and be very careful that do don't compromise the fire rating of the wall with any "improvements" you make. Stewie Re: Soundproofing common wall in apartment 4Aug 09, 2020 9:39 am Vascariz So I'm interested in what is possible to reduce/eliminate bass coming through. Any companies who specialise in this? What should I investigate doing, what won't make a difference? E.g. insulation filling with mass loaded vinyl? ceiling beams? Low frequency reverberation can be an issue on lightweight materials, you will need a proper assessment, Contact a consulting engineer firm that also does installations. Suspended Concrete Slab on Top Of Office Building BTW you might want to have a fire engineering assessment ( apartment -> Future proof = Fire proof) as well on the vinyl Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Hi, I live in a single storey semi-detached house with a shared wall.
