Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 22, 2020 12:30 am We signed a contract for a full home renovation and remodeling, all started well and we paid a very large portion of the money up front to allow the builder to be able to buy materials and pay tradesmen to enable the reno to proceed quickly. We are renting due to the scale of works ( the house is unliveable). When COVID-19 hit he stopped work and he stated that his tradesmen didn’t want to work until they understood what was happening. Work resumed at a very slow pace and he has completed many other jobs ( as seen on his instagram posts). The original completion date passed just after the first lockdown lifted, we then agreed on a new date to compensate for the lockdown. With the new date approaching and no hope of achieving this what course of action can we take? When we pass this competition date what penalty can we impose on the builder ( we only have a small portion to pay) should we be asking for our rent and storage locker costs until the job is completed ?
