Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 12, 2020 9:14 pm Hi there, We are looking to build on to the front of our property to have extra living space and master bedroom. We are looking at lounge area on bottom floor and master bedroom on top around 6.5x6.5m in size. It is a single storey house (with proposed double storey extension on front). Thought I would see if anyone had any thoughts on proposed first draft plans. First image is current house plans and second is proposed ground floor and third is proposed top floor. There is a door to the outside in the living room to patio that is not on the image. I would prefer the WIR/Ensuite on the opposite side of the master bedroom given the plumbing is on that side and I think the outlook to the other side would be better. Street is the RHS of the plans. Thanks! Re: House Extension 3Jul 13, 2020 10:35 pm Thanks for the reply oklouise. We were intending to keep the width of the extension the same as the current house but would need to check the required side extension. The idea of having the top smaller than the bottom storey was to allow some variation in the front facade. The two doors in the study is actually the laundry. We are not sure what we will use the rest of the room for yet. There was thought of using part of it to use as a Walk in Pantry. We have not designed the kitchen area as yet as the main purpose for putting what we have there at this stage is to remove the load bearing wall. Still need to work on layout of the actual kitchen. Just to clarify the patio is covered already. I hadn't put a lot of thought into the house being dark but that is a good point, i wil think about it a little more. Some great thoughts, thank you! Lindsay Re: House Extension 6Jul 25, 2020 10:43 am thanks for sharing..i can't help have an opinion and that's better than the original but try without the extra door from bedroom to ens or at least use a cavity slider and downstairs draw a 1m wide pathway across the rooms where you need to walk and place some furniture around the room and it looks like you have a diagonal path from front door to kitchen...my suggestion with the stairs along the other side is that all the walking happens in one pathway and leaves so much more space around the living area and master bedroom with view through the void above the stairs but you need to have what feels comfortable for you Re: House Extension 8Jul 25, 2020 1:35 pm lindsayr Hi oklouise, Just thought I would let you know what I have been thinking. I have been playing with the design, and thinking of something like this. Re: House Extension 9Jul 25, 2020 2:11 pm Hi SIRIUSKEY, No that would not be my intent. I am intending that it would be fully enclosed downstairs with a half wall upstairs. After @oklouise's thoughts, I am looking at flipping the stairs to the opposite side, similar to their initial idea but with a similar ensuite/WIR layout to I had. oklouise came up with a good plan.
