Dark house.

My house is very dark from the outside. The eves or roof extends 2.5 meters out. I could do with some suggestions on how to lighten it up.

Velux skylights are the best. We added 2 to our old kitchen - they brightened up the area dramatically, and the light well in the ceiling made a nice architectural statement.

Thanks you for your reply. I have a few inside the house and they are great. It was more the outside appearance I was referring to.

a more economical option would be to replace some panels of roofing with panels of Polycarbonate transluscent roofing..try narrow panels in line with windows and keep in mind that transluscent panels of roofing can overheat if too wide so test a single sheet before adding more panels..and depending on how you use the verandah and how much shelter you need/want consider removing sections of roofing and make the bare frames into a pergola covered with deciduous vines to create summer shade

On "Selling houses Australia" they added skylights to an external verandah - it was the episode "North Maclean, Qld Empire Bay, NSW".

Thank you. The sky lights were mentioned before Inside. I can see there the difference it makes outside as well.
