Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 15, 2020 4:47 pm Hi Team, The house we are in is a 3 bedroom place, but with an eye on the future expansion of our family, plus requiring a guest room for visitors we need a bit more space. We are thinking about works to the house and are considering all options: knock-down-rebuild, single storey extension, full second storey addition. Our budget will be modest, and at this stage i don't know if it will stretch to a KDR or a full second storey addition, and planning restrictions due to location (enviro zoning) mean we will only be able to add one bedroom on a single storey extension. One option that only just came to me is a partial second storey addition. As our single storey garage (but double in length) is attached to the house, but does not share a common roof, i see potential that we could build up to a second storey here giving us another 40m2 of living space, but am after ideas to see if anyone has done something similar and how they have tied it into the existing roofline. I would be open to increasing this into the current roof space if cost allows, but still do not want to go crazy and take the whole roof off to make it work. I am sure there must be a way of making it look good, but i am just not seeing the vision, so any help or photos of something similar for inspiration would be greatly received. I have attached a photo below of the front of the house, and highlighted the area that im thinking of for the works. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6470 |
