Anyone had experience in this area, who did you use and how close was the match? New floorboards matching old 2Feb 06, 2020 12:02 pm We refinished the floor in a 1970s house that had been patched badly before. We tried to find the exact timber to fix the patches, and of course the entire floor was refinished at the same time, so the final finish was consistent. It looks pretty good, but there is variation, so maybe we didn’t get exactly the same timber; however, it is way better than the previous patch job. The most important thing is to stitch the new boards into the original, rather than just patch the hole that you have. The job was done in Canberra by the floor refinisher. Re: New floorboards matching old 6Feb 07, 2020 2:27 pm scotlandgee Sorry, I’ve misunderstood. It’s possible but need to sand back the whole floor? It depends on what is currently coating the boards. Some coatings allow for patch refinishing while others don’t. You'd need to get an expert to advise. If someone will refinish for you, they will know - otherwise ask at the shop where you intend to buy your coating from.
