Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jan 25, 2020 7:48 pm Good evening, I'm looking to add a barn door to an existing opening in my house. The door is going to be quite large (approx. 2120h x 1520w) and will weigh about 50kg I'm told. Ultimately I'd like to mount the door to the wall without the use of a header board. The header board will be very long because of the size of the clearance needed on the other side of the opening and I think that the track only look is cleaner. I've had a look around to see if there are videos or posts from others about mounting a barn door to the timber studs in the wall but haven't had much luck. I plan on repainting the room in a couple months so my thought is to cut open the wall and add in some thick timber noggins along the track level and then plaster the wall back up in order to be able to mount the track that way, but that is option B. Would the existing timber studs in the wall be able to hold a 50kg door? I am able to get spacers to clear the trim so that's no issue. I've attached photo for reference. You're adding another 50kg and then the lintel might be undersized with the extra weight of the door. Stewie consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 6700 4 4543 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
