Help, can I get rid of this ?

Hi guys,

We fairly recently moved house . I’m doing some work in the garden and this random drain has me puzzled.

What’s its purpose ? Can I cut it and cap it off or does it serve a present or future purpose ?

Really appreciate any replies

Thank you

Dean

Looks like a sewer inspection point.
overflow relief
if you get a blockage in sewer pipes, this is where it will overflow instead of inside your house
must leave it intact
I'd say it's a plumbing IO. It's capped so it's not a relief gully and they are typically next to the house anyway.

You shouldn't really cover these over. They are designed so that a plumber can access the sewer line in the case of a blockage. You can put nicer caps on them or box them out and have a lid over the top but you shouldn't just cut them of or build over them.

Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single…
