Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 18, 2019 5:41 pm Hi Guys Thought I would start to share our long and slow journey on renovating our home. I hope this will be a nice long thread, most of the Reno ones are fairly short with a few notable exceptions. We have a fairly standard BV home built in 1980 in Southern Victoria (if my handle doesn't give it away). Three bedrooms. Kitchen and Main bath had been updated early to mid 2000s. Here is the floor plan is it was when purchased. That photo will come soon as I still hate looking at it. Never once used the shower or the sink. Brown. what were they thinking - Green paint in the kitchen and the floating floor Pink carpet (still there haha) and brown doors (gone thankfully only 2 months ago) - The morrocan toilet. I say that as it was yellow sand colour paint sponged on with tiny half or full square inch sea blue tiles on the floor... can't find a picture unfortunately It was imperfect but it was home and it was ours. So, our first project was about three years after buying, around 2014. As stated earlier I hated the ensuite. The tri panel door. The square inch brown tiles (so much grout) the yellow sink and brown taps, and the tiled mirror. The horror . I seriously preferred to look at bare walls (I know its a first world problem, but you can't help how you feel) Seeing that powerpoint handing off on the right just made me remember, the light switch was hanging off as well. My darling wife tried to turn it off and grabbed from behind to pull the switch up to look at it - and copped a nasty zap. Thats when I decided the switchboard had to go also (was fuses not RCD). She was shaken up but the ambo's gave her the all clear. That was a lesson to us - I work in an office and she, a nurse respectively, should not meddle with what we dont know. I am telling this slightly out of order, I had already ripped the floating vinyl floor boards up in the kitchen and meals and laid these tiles but I can't find the pics... oh well I loved these tiles and they looked great in the kitchen, its a big regret what happens to them later but I dont want to spoil the surprise Re: Evolution of a home - an ongoing retrospective 6Aug 18, 2019 6:38 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is the frame going in, its such a simple bathroom, nothing fancy but it was clean and functional and I loved it, so did the much better half. Simple single vanity and a mirror off to the right, also not shown is the WIR, but I wasn't taking enough pics or I have deleted them to show much more. I was happy with the ensuite and it largely looks the same today (wish the glass was still so clean) And had a simple cavity slider put in and doorway squared off to the arch. hated that arch. Re: Evolution of a home - an ongoing retrospective 7Aug 18, 2019 7:17 pm It was at this stage - due to a couple of health problems - we did not really do anything of note from 2015-2019. We both changed jobs and had some health troubles. However I was sitting in the afternoon of NYE 2018 and I decided, this was the year that we would go a little bigger. It was probably easier to sell and buy or build, but we had come to love the spot, the size of the block, and other things. SO we will remake this one Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ this might give an idea (this is the demo plan) Re: Evolution of a home - an ongoing retrospective 8Aug 18, 2019 7:32 pm I had this plan kicking around in my head for the longest time - the drafty thought I was a bit mad and wanted to flip the orientation a bit, put the bathroom and laundry in bedroom 2 and push out that way for another bedroom and more living space. However, my roof isn't Trussed, and the slab could make services tricky. He then came around to my idea, and sketched up this. Would like some feedback on the floor plan, good bad or indifferent We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
