Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 28, 2019 8:47 pm Hey all, I'm trying to turn an old mirror that was attached to a chest of drawers into a hanging mirror, mounted on the wall. The mirror weighs 18kg. Would one screw - say, 8g 75ml, be strong enough to hold it's weight off of a stud? Otherwise, i can build a frame to mount to the back of it and fix a centre block to the mirror and the stud, and two blocks each side to the mirror and a plaster anchor each. However, to do this, I would be relying on the timber merely being glued to the back of the mirror, as there is nothing to screw the timber into to fix it to the mirror (currently the mirror just has a thing sheet of ply stapled to the back of the mirror frame). Would either of these ideas work? How strong can one screw be? And how strong can the glue - say, liquid nails, be? Or what is a better form of glue to fix blocks to the back of the mirror? Thanks in advance! Re: can i hang a heavy (18kg) mirror off 1 screw into the st 2Apr 14, 2020 5:55 pm You may follow a triangle shape. Lower 2 or 3 screws will carry the weight. If you follow this instruction i guess this will perfect to carry 18kg. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Ditto 3M Claw, expensive but best thing I've used to date. I put two of the 11kg ones in for a 12kg mirror on the wall, and its been great for 4 years now. 4 10978 To be honest I don't know.
