Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 24, 2019 12:29 am I have an old house and want to do a home renovation hiring myself rather than hiring a building manager as I do not mind the troublesome handling and hiring tradesman myself . I have done a bit of quoting a couple of years ago for a couple of months for each category and due to personal reason, we halted it...and I think now it's about time to do the job but I would like to ask the order I should do first. These are the ones I intend to do the home renovation as I heard its better to do from top to bottom Please correct me if I am doing the wrong order or any suggestion you can add 1) Demolition and removal for old kitchen, 2 x bathroom, tiles, carpets, all wardrobes, all doors (as they will all be replaced new) as well as disconnect kitchen/plumbing 2) Hire trader to do add additional gyprock ceiling for my living room, bedrooms, kitchen 3) Hire electrician to do LED lights 4) Install new kitchen + electrician/plumber for connection 5) Install new bathroom tiles, toilet, washing basin etc and do plumbing 6) Painting interior & exterior of the house 7) Change new engineering floor boarding in living/study room and change new carpet in bedrooms 8. Install new bedroom wardrobes x 3 We may possibly change all new house windows and I heard its best to change them in 2) but I am wondering if we can decide to do it AFTER the renovation is completed, like a year or two later? The reason for that is due to the restrictions from council that we need to keep the old style and also that it requires 10 weeks of custom ordering and installation and we don't really have time and may want to do it maybe a year or two later but not sure if it is OK Your feedback and suggestion will be appreciated Re: Home renovation from top to bottom in order suggestion? 3May 31, 2019 3:08 pm Your steps are great—stick to them and you'll be fine. However, for the windows, I would of course choose to have everything done at once so I would include it in the renovation. But if you need a year or two, and you're okay with the hassle of organizing a home project again, then it's all good. I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
