Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 20, 2019 7:10 pm Our garage faces directly west and temperatures in it in the middle of summer were generally only about 1 or 2 C degrees below external temps. The temp in the garage impinged on the house via the single brick wall between the garage and the kitchen to the point where items in the WIP had to be thrown out because they got too hot. Ceiling is insulated with 3.5 Batts. First step - install ceiling fan in WIP to draw air conditioned air into WIP. Second step - install aircell foil insulation in garage door - increased differential between outside and garage by ~2 degrees C Third step - install shade sail to provide shade on garage door - increased differential between outside and garage by a further 2.5 degrees C Fourth step - replace aircell foil with 40mm M grade polystyrene - no effect at all - quite surprising Fifth step - install weather seals to gaps at top and sides of garage door opening - no discernible effect Sixth step - still to be done - fit temperature activated exhaust fan in garage ceiling plumbed externally and fit and air vent to bottom of door between living areas and garage.
