I have been tryimg to find if/how this can be done. The doors in our house are the exact same timber frame as the fixed windiws, its only the frame that is different. Can anyone tell me, have you converted any full height timber windiws into swing (french) doors? Here is a photo of a dooe and a window. I know the correct procedure is to replace the entire frame, but we cant afford to, are very unlikely to get a good match (these cedar wimdows and doors are 25yo) and it seems like such a waste of beautiful windows. Any advice is appreciated!

Hello LH4545, this is easy done as long as the width remains the same. What happens is you have a lintel above the window that takes the roof load and transfers the load accross the top of the window using the lintel, and onto the studs either side of the window.
This is known as "Load Transfer"
So, as long as you dont need to go wider, you can easily remove the bricks below and install your door

Everyone always posts the floor plan. Do you have elevation schematics that will give us a better idea of what the designer is proposing?
