Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 02, 2019 7:42 am I have been tryimg to find if/how this can be done. The doors in our house are the exact same timber frame as the fixed windiws, its only the frame that is different. Can anyone tell me, have you converted any full height timber windiws into swing (french) doors? Here is a photo of a dooe and a window. I know the correct procedure is to replace the entire frame, but we cant afford to, are very unlikely to get a good match (these cedar wimdows and doors are 25yo) and it seems like such a waste of beautiful windows. Any advice is appreciated! What happens is you have a lintel above the window that takes the roof load and transfers the load accross the top of the window using the lintel, and onto the studs either side of the window. This is known as "Load Transfer" So, as long as you dont need to go wider, you can easily remove the bricks below and install your door Good luck! start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 19586 2 9448 If I hire a contractor to convert a window to a sliding door will I need to show them Council approval paperwork?
