Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 07, 2018 12:40 pm I'm looking to get good examples of the exposed rafter eaves detail, currently documenting construction drawings for alterations and additions to my home in sydney. Being aware of how the detail works as a timber constructed home but my home is a double brick home so getting the detail right is critical. Just wondering if anyone can assist with this detail or if anyone has good examples of how its done - the intent is to have normal rafters inside the roof space but have a larger profile on the overhang so essentially two timber profiles coming together at the cavity brickwork. Below is a image of what I would like to achieve but with a brick face cavity wall. Can anyone help? Many Thanks. Paul. Using either the app on a tablet or the website on a computer you can search their database of millions of photos to see examples of what you are after. I typed in "exposed eaves" and filtered for "exterior", and attached are screenshots of the thumbnails that came up. I used Houzz extensively from the earliest days of thinking about our new house, and the ability to catalogue and save visualisations was invaluable. In terms of detail, any designer or architect can draw that up for you; however, while I am neither, or a builder, can I offer the following? Unless you are completely replacing your roof and redesigning the trusses as a result, exposing the truss overhangs may require both removing what is covering them at the moment and then removing the roofing material and lining above the trusses and also the boarding in the now exposed gap above the bricks (presuming the trusses are sitting on the brickwork and are now cut into it). Once that is done, it will just be a matter of adding the decorative extra pieces to the bottom of the truss. Of course, there is a fair bit of work in this and fine detailing always costs money, but if that is the look you after and are willing to bear the cost, it will be easily achievable. If that is the case then you can fit exposed Dummy rafters in between the trusses, panelling on the top, with a bird board. hth BTW It helps if you put a photo up of what you have Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Update from me!
