Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement Re: Lifting floor tiles for reuse 4Oct 29, 2018 9:53 am RenoMentor Hi Stevo, It really depends on how well they are glued down. When I lift tiles it is ALWAYS a bit of a gamble how easily they come up. For example, in a reno we recently did, it took 3 days for our demo crew to pull up a unit worth of floor tiles. They would chip, break and not come up. Glued really well! Can I offer you some potential alternatives? 1. Is there definitely no opportunity to match the tiles? Different batches may have slight colour variations, but this COULD be un-noticable. 2. If the tiles can't come up. Could you re-tile with a totally different 'feature tile'? Hope this helps! Danny. Hi Danny, Thanks for your suggestions. I've looked for matching tiles but they're more than 20 years old and even the tile remainder shop in Bayswater (Melbourne) didn't have them. We bought them from the importer so it's possible they weren't even available elsewhere back then. Feature tiles are also out because it's only one small area of the kitchen and I'm not about to replace perfectly good tiles to make it look like it wasn't a patch-up job. Meanwhile, I started working on getting some tiles out of the cupboard myself. I'll post how I did it in this discussion. Cheers, Stevo Re: Lifting floor tiles for reuse 5Oct 29, 2018 10:18 am Over the weekend I had a go at doing this myself and have lifted one tile so far! In case anyone wants to try this themselves, here's what I did:
