Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 01, 2018 9:13 am My husband and I purchased an established home in March 2017. We weren't able to get the first home owner's grant as it doesn't apply to older properties, only new builds etc. It's a small 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom property. We have A LOT of things to do to the house and we've taken our time so as to not get over excited or be spending to much money on everything all at once. The first things we took care of once we settled on the house and moved in was a lot of cleaning!! It wasn't left in the best condition unfortunately and smelt VERY musty from always being closed up with the air con running . We ripped up carpet in the bedrooms, tore down a garden shed, cleaned the gardens and gave all surfaces a really good scrub down. We kept all windows and doors open as much as we could. As the property is almost 30 years old, it needs some TLC. We did some important things first like getting new security screens and pest control, and slowly started updating some smaller things inside the house which most don't notice but we do. There are also different rules and regulations for older homes but I'll get to that in another thread. You pretty much need council approval for everything! LOL I will continue to make up a few threads of all the different things we have completed but I'll bullet point the topics below 1. Concrete - inside and out 2. Wall being taken down 3. New Floors 4. Shed. 5. Kitchen Reno starting 6. Doors/Windows 7. Council Approval 8. Items not to standard anymore That's all I can think of for now. We all had to start somewhere and an older 2 bed 1 bathroom that needs a bit of TLC is as good a place as any.
