Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jan 18, 2018 7:18 pm We had a strange servery jutting our from the kitchen window (house built in 1972) made from a bonded asbestos sheet connected to a timber frame. We had it removed today (along with the asbestos in our laundry) and because there are no brick sills we can now see into the wall cavity and there’s a hot water pipe running into the wall of the house through what looks like a sheet of foil-lined insulating board. But we can also see white stuff around the pipe and now I’m freaking out that it’s friable asbestos (see pics). Any advice?? I feel like surely the asbestos removal company would be picked it up if it was, but I’m eight months pregnant and worrying about everything!! Asbestos? To me this looks like an old pipe going through old wall and the penetration is old even if it looks white. It looks 10mm thick and could be just plaster. You could spray it with water just like windex and mix up a bit of cornice cement (you can buy a small bag at bunnings) and seal it with mixed up plaster. If you are worried I would bring back asbestos remobilise and double check. There are over 1 million homes in Melbourne with asbestos cement, but safe if not disturbed. A warning to all. Before you plan building work on any home dating earlier than 1986 consider likelihood of asbestos and if in doubt get a professional help. I has no Asbestos in it. Houses before 1985… 2 7138 4 1834 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7320 |
