Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 29, 2017 4:23 pm Hey Everyone . Do you know what im talking about the really nice looking study desk they build in off the walls in display homes. I would like to build one for my study area. I know how to basically hang it off the wall with perhaps front leg bracing if I want to go that way but where would one fine the timer table tops they use? Im after something that is lightweight but I can stain which will look great. Is there anything ready made or which timeber should I be selecting. I found some 40mm laminate benchtops a bunnings they weight a ton and would not be suitable hanging from a wall. Can anyone share any pointers. Thanks I dont really like this one but you will get the idea I also have the disadvantage of not having a wall on either side to jam it up against so I can only run a ledger boards across the gyprock for the back of it to sit on so im thinking I would need to build a carcass on one side so it has some kind of support? https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en& ... xk2-AyNxlM: Re: Display home Built in Study Desks 2Oct 30, 2017 5:52 am Seeing you don't have two walls to "jam" it in, would using a small drawer at one end work for you cause it would work for me plus they'd be handy anyways and you could pick up something cheap enough that could work rather than building an end. There are many on that link that have such a drawer and you could pick up something that could work off ebay or gumtree cheap and what you suggested would do for attaching it to the wall. Re: Display home Built in Study Desks 3Nov 01, 2017 7:42 pm Yeh I have thought about using a draw on at least one side would support the weight better and then I could just use my ledger board to support the free standing end. If I did go freestanding all the way how much do you think I could hang weight wise of a leger board im assuming without being able to jam it between something the weight would be pitiful without front legs at least. I like your idea of at least drawers on one side perhaps is practical. My house is pretty much really open plan and the study area is in the centre of the house pretty much when you look intot he study room do you think I would be better off having the drawers shown when you look into the room from the other parts of the house or show the freestanding end I just cant decide what would look better? You can view he study area from dining room table lounge/family room and slightly from the kitchen.
