Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 09, 2017 10:52 am Hi all, I am wanting to hear any of your experiences in expanding upwards... We are currently in a 3 bed 2 bath home with a media (only 2 years old). We will need 4 bedrooms plus a study in the future. Yes, I am now regretting not adding the 4th bedroom in the beginning but hey, it is our first home, there is only 2 of us and we wanted a back yard. I am in very early stages of looking into this option, not even sure if it will be an option... How do I even find this out? Do I get a renovation builder in first to inspect the home before I have my plans drawn up properly? I have a big walk in linen perfect for a staircase and would love to be able to put 2 bedrooms (one can be used for the study), a new linen, WC, and maybe another living area (kids retreat). We are on 600sqm and easily have the option of expanding the ground floor but I definitely do not want to loose any more yard. Re: Storey Extension 2Oct 09, 2017 5:19 pm khp3294 If you ask a builder for ideas and to do a sketch with preliminary costings then he won't want you shopping his drawings and quote around to other builders.Alternatively, if you have your own sketch, quantities and costing done you will be able to get 3 competitive quotes and then decide which way to go. If you still want to go up, you should engage the one of the best first floor additions mobs in you area, a mob like this has these types of jobs owned, they'll know how to get the best out of what you have to work with and make it look good. Any good first floor additions mob will make it look as if it was built with that addition from new, not it looks like it was an add on, it would be difficult to pick a builder out of your local who could do as good.
