I have no laundry, half bathroom, unsafe front porch but I have most of the materials (bath, taps, timber, flooring etc). I have no funds left after not only paying him, but paying for extra materials and doing half the labor myself. I also foolishly, fed him lunch every day and bought him beer for the end of each day. He spent all the money and has walked off saying he can't afford to do it any more. I cannot afford to get someone in to finish the job. I am a single female and I worked so hard to get this house and try to fix and renovate and n Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ow it's just a nightmare. I have a half finished laundry, and semi demolished bathroom, a 1/4 finished porch and other jobs he never even commenced. I purchased all the materials, appliances and equipment (bath, taps, toilet, stove etc) and he was supposed to purchase all the timber for the front porch.
Re: Renovation rip off 2Apr 12, 2017 9:21 pm That's heartbreaking. Sorry to hear that story. Step 1. File a police f r a u d report. Step 2. Lodge a complaint with your states consumer affairs. Step 3. Call your local current affairs program. Unfortunately the next steps all require money. Plumbing need to be done by registered tradesmen. Take lots and lots of pictures of everything no matter how small then give a copy to someone else just in case. Re: Renovation rip off 3Apr 13, 2017 7:41 pm Berek That's heartbreaking. The police will not take a complaint about this and will quickly fob you off, as there is nothing they can do. Re: Renovation rip off 4Apr 13, 2017 9:11 pm Don't know what country you're from but fr'aud in Australia is a criminal matter. Try googling benefit by deception... They probably will do nothing but the point is to get it on record which will help in taking further claim against him. Re: Renovation rip off 5Apr 13, 2017 9:25 pm 99% of matters that come before the civil courts can be classified as "fra u d" in terms of a dictionary definition, but they dont satisfy the criminal definition of fra u d. Thats why they end up there. When people have a contract as the basis for their dispute, its pretty well always a civil matter. Talk to a lawyer , then get back to us with what you have learned. And not knowing what country I am from, shows your observational skills are weak, not only in respect of legal matters. Re: Renovation rip off 6Apr 25, 2017 3:05 pm wow, what a crap situation- sorry to hear. Did you have a contract in place with them, and are they a registered building practitioner, and did they have insurance etc? For 40k, in most states I think that is mandatory? I would be straight on the phone to the building authority to make a formal complaint, and I would be asking them for advice. https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building ... -complaint If the person you hired was not registered, and you didn't have a contract, I suspect you may be in for a hard time I'm afraid.
