Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 07, 2017 3:00 pm Hi, When we bought our house the original single car garage had already been enclosed and made into a large laundry, study and 4th bedroom off the kitchen. We have knocked out all of those walls and currently have plans to turn it into a master bedroom with an en-suite and walk in closet. We showed a friend the area yesterday and he said he felt that it may be too narrow to feel like a "master suite" and that everything may feel small because of the width of the room. I don't really mind a smaller bedroom but I'm worried about resale. Any suggestions on layout/alternative ideas would be appreciated. We have 3 bedrooms and a bathroom down one end of the house and the new bedroom will be at the other end. I do have photos of our floor plan and new design but I'm new to the site and have no idea how to upload photos Re: Master Bedroom Help! 2Feb 07, 2017 7:39 pm Well you haven't given any dimensions so not sure how people can give accurate help. To ad a picture, you'll need to have them uploaded somewhere else and put a link in the post using the Img button. Somewhere like tinypic, google+ photos, flickr, imgur etc Re: Master Bedroom Help! 4Feb 08, 2017 9:05 pm I've fixed your pics I couldn't get them to embed using the img tag. Use multifunctional pieces like a table with side drawers, put a mirror and more. There are so many ideas you can find online. Hope this helps! Re: Master Bedroom Help! 8Mar 07, 2017 10:32 pm What are the dimensions? I'm assuming if it was a single car garage it was minimum of 3.5 metres, possibly 4m wide? The master bedroom in my house is only 3.5m wide (4.8m long) and for me personally it was wide enough but felt almost too long. I have now converted that room into a studio flat that I rent out for holiday rentals (added in a kitchenette and have a living area space within that long room). My new renovation plans involve converting another room into a new master bedroom and it will be 4m x 3.8m and I think it will be plenty big enough. I guess it depends what sort of furniture you want to have in there. Is it going to be used as more than just a bedroom (i.e. are you wanting to incorporate a home office space, sitting area, parental retreat) or is it really just for sleeping. If the later than really you can get away with 3.2m to comfortably fit a queen size bed with room either side and 3.5m to give plenty of room at end of bed to walk around and maybe even have a some shelving for TV etc along that wall. Good luck. Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life.
