We are looking to extend our house and are having to choose between going to a major builder and getting them to do everything vs going to our own architect, getting them to draw plans, then taking these to a builder etc.
I was wondering what the pro's vs con's of each approach are in relation to the cost (I wondered whether the one stop shop may be cheaper/more efficient as the various professionals would communicate with one another; or alternatively more expensive as they may charge a premium for reducing the hassle of building).
Any thoughts regarding this? As we neither of us work in the construction/building industry we are also somewhat naive in relation to what should cost what and where to source good individual professionals.
