Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 26, 2016 9:08 am We are converting a bedroom to a bathroom and are replacing the existing window with a glass brick window that is approx 2100h x 1600w. The intention was to place a free standing bath in front of the window but a friend mentioned we might not be able to if building code regs aren't met. I can't find anything on the web about whether this is the case or not. Does anyone know the rules around placing a bath in front of a window? Re: Bathroom window ratings 2Sep 26, 2016 2:18 pm It will depend more on your local council more than anything else. Some like ours couldn't give a hoot if you are changing the window from clear to translucent. Changing the size of the window is another story. It is all about privacy and overlooking etc to your neighbours and whether they are adversely affected As for code... pffft. A glass brick has a lot more thermal insulating properties than standard 4mm glass. R 1.75 to R 2.0 whereas standard 4mm is rated at only R 0.65 to 0.85 ( rough guide only ) There is the U factor as well. It probably has better sound insulating properties also. If your beam or lintel can support the load over the current window without a problem then installing a glass block window won't change this either. Stewie 2 8021 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 4394 |
