Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 01, 2016 4:13 pm Hi there, I've been a long-time stalker of everyone's building and renovating projects and its finally time for us to take the plunge and do some larger renovations on our house. We have a 1970's brick and tile and we want to start with the outside - Double carport, front fence, back patio/alfresco plus landscaping and gardening including updating a pool area. Then onto the inside if the budget allows. Where do we start???? Do we hire an architect? Landscape designer? Basically, how do we get plans for our front and back yard drawn up? Draftsperson? We have NO idea, lol! Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks Re: First Time Renovating - where do we start 2Aug 01, 2016 6:40 pm Hi SM, My personal opinion would be to either have a rough sketch and specifications of what you are wanting, if you can do that yourself sweet, or engage an architect or drafty. Then get a couple of builders around and landscapers, show them your plans and ideas/specs and ask if they can do a ballpark figure, so you know what your budget could be around. Otherwise if you don't mind the unknown or can splash out a bit, engage an architect or drafty and and get plans drawn and designed then send those plans to the relevant trades. Some architects I know can do a landscape design or they have associates who do. Different architects and draftsmen will have different fees too, so meet some and find a person/company who you feel comfortable with and can relate to your views and what you would like to achieve. What you are looking at is fibrous plaster, true gypsum, it is cast on horizontal beds with fibers included to give strength. I has no Asbestos in it.
