Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 01, 2016 8:52 pm Hi, I have a large family room with a small room beside it. The family room has a pitched roof and the small room a flat roof. I would like to extend the small room alongside the family room to make one larger room. Trouble is the family room has a pitched roof and the small room a flat roof. Does anyone know: 1. what's involved 2. the cost of bringing my idea to fruition? Thanks everyone! Re: A pitched roof and a flat roof 2Jul 02, 2016 8:20 am I'd ditch the flat roof and make it all pitched in keeping with the rest of the house. Neighbours either side of us had flat roofed extensions done to their houses years ago and they look pretty crappy compared to the rest of it. There would of course be extra cost to do this. If it is a small room why not demolish it and just rebuild the new room as you want it? Otherwise you'd be adding on to an add on which in itself could be problematic. It would also make what I previously discuss above easier. You should post up a drawing of your floorplan so we can comment further.
