Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 28, 2016 11:01 am We are looking at taking out part of a wall between the rumpus room and a bedroom, but not sure who I need to speak to, to get this project started. I've identified that the following work will be required:

Identify if I can do what I want without the roof falling in
Make safe and relocate electrical points/cables
Cut out plaster/frame
Plaster around the hole and add in screening
Add in skirting boards/arcatraves
Paint
Lay carpet in the new gap
We want to do this nicely and while I'm handy, I don't have the time to do this myself, so we're looking at getting someone to do this for us and make it look really nice. I don't know who to approach, as in I don't think a builder is the right person as the job is too small. So I thought I'd come and ask the experts, ie yourselves, where I should start Re: Where to start for taking out a wall? 3May 29, 2016 12:09 pm Yep, any carpenter would be able to do this kind of work with their eyes closed. The first thing they would do is stick their head up the manhole in the ceiling and see if the wall has any struts from the roof going down onto that wall and/or ceiling joists as well as per OC above. Is your roof a traditionally framed roof or roof trussses ? If the former then what I said previously applies. If the latter then your wall would be non-loadbearing. I agree, the carpenter is the first man to talk to, he'll spot it right away if a sparkie is needed. If no sparkie, SWING A HAMMER! No matter what job you do during the day, a bit of DEMOLITION with a BIG hammer always helps the mindfullness I've found...... until something goes wrong ... aka Mr murphy... The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8674 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
